What package are you getting and how much is it?

Verizon is pushing FIOS hard in our area. We get a letter about twice a month reminding us that FIOS is available. About once a month they will call to get us to sign up. Two weeks ago they sent people door-to-door in 20 degree weather. Looked like college students on break, I let them come in just to warm up a little.

damnit, we get fliers every month, but Fios not available in our area! It almost feels like verizon is taunting me, so i'm stuck with comcrap....

I wish they offered FIOS here. AZ is listed as a site for future deployment, but I haven't seen any VZ trucks and their site lists my address as unavailable. I can't get Verizon DSL either. My choices for high speed internet are Qwest DSL and Cox Cable, and Qwest blows.

Once the line is run in the area they need people to sign up to pay for it. So instead of the last mile problem it becomes the last 100feet problem.

We got Fios and the installer was really nice and helpful. I told him I was putting the battery box/equip. in my basement crawl space. So he just spun off a large amount of RG6 and the power/connect wire harness wire and i ran it to my spot. And before any one says that is their job, i dount the install includes crawling in my small crawl space and custon running the wires and setting it up through the basement.

Mean while TWC is talking about bandwidth caps (first in TX, next, who knows, NYC?). Doh!

I wish I could get FIOS.

That's a sick deal. I'm paying $95 for basic digital cable and 6/512 cable internet, no HD channels, one box, from Brighthouse.

FIOS needs to get its ass to Orlando ASAP.

I got the 5/2 + TV recently. I don't know what I'd do with 25/5, as that's pretty fast.

PS - is the $74.99 a month for TV too just temporary? I got my first month free, then discounted for the first 6 months, then "full price" of about $90 the rest of the way.

Does that price include your internet service? My parents pay about $90 - $100 /month for Cablevision's standard 10/1.5 package and "Family" Cable service (which is a basically basic channels + ~60 cable channels, where at least 20 are of those are not watched).

No, its not good. Its fake Fiber. They run fiber to your street, then from there use telephone wire to get the signal to your house. Telephone wire does not have the capacity to carry the data required to be future proof.

Currently, if you get a DVR and want to watch one HD program while recording another, or if you've got two HDTVs and your significant other wants to watch an HD program at the same time you do, you can't. The medium only allows for ONE HD STREAM at a time to your house.

They are also claiming TRUE 1080p, which is a flat out lie. They don't have the capacity or bandwidth to push 1080p to your home (and I don't believe that any network records in 1080p anyway). It's a normal 1080i signal, just like everyone else, upconverted at the cable box.

I'm stuck with TWC and I have no other choice unless I go satellite/dsl. I'm sick of TWC... they always act like they do stuff for the consumer good. Bullshit. They don't offer NFL Network (let me pay for it at least), they have tons and tons of channels that no one watches, and they charge you an arm and a leg for crappy service. I regularly have someone from TWC come over every other month or so because my internet has been down all day because of something stupid on TWC's side. You'd think they'd compensate you with the two days of no service (1 day no service + the 1 day it takes for someone to show up)? Hell no.

And if TWC does roll out bandwidth caps, then that'll be the straw that broke the camels back for me. TWC and other cable companies rather move backward, while the rest of the world moves forward.

Hell, I've had TWC going on 6 years now. You'd think they'd update my bandwidth? Hell no. I get the same dl/ul speeds that I got in 2002. Granted, I pay $10 less, but still.

The point is, is that TWC largely operates with very little competition in the areas it operates, pisses me off. I want FIOS! But I know that wont happen anytime soon.

As someone who works for one of the major cable companies, I believe the competition will shake us up. Like you stated, there's virtually no competition. When FIOS and U-Verse is full-fledged in most areas, changes will start.

Although, one of our areas already has FIOS competition and we actually do pretty well.

Competition and a wide selection of HD channels are the only real good things that UVerse brings to the table at the current time. The problem is that it costs a TON of money to implement a new infrastructure. If Verizon doesn't have you listed in their expansion areas, chances are you're not going to get FIOS because its just too damn expensive for them to worry about.

So basically, Cable is going to have to step up and offer more with their services to compete with the lower introductory prices of UVerse and prove that its a better choice for people who want HD.

Believe me, Comcast is much better than UVerse is... and they have the ability to get better. They've announced that they promise 100mbps speeds, possibly by the end of the year, to aid in the transfer of HD content.

Where do I find this list? I looked on the site and didn't see anything. I have entered my address before to see if it was available but it currently is not. I have never seen an expansion list though.
