Getting four teeth pulled?

I'm getting some orthodontic work down on my teeth/jaws, I have a terrible overbite apparently that's shredding my gums and damaging my molars. The orthodontist wants to pull out four teeth (two useless wisdom teeth and two pre molar) from my upper jaw and then use aligners to slowly push everything to the correct place over a couple of years.

Has anyone ever had four(?!) teeth pulled at once as an adult? I have to say I'm a bit apprehensive about it

It's normal to remove wisdom teeth, why aren't your other two wisdom teeth being removed? Have they pushed through the gums already so you can see all of them?

Yes they have pushed right through ok.

I'm not really worried about the wisdom teeth, they should be removed anyway. Just the two pre molars, the ortho says they need to be removed so the crowded teeth have room to move but I'm a bit worried about removing functional teeth. Maybe I should get a second opinion...

Hell yes get a second opinion, as inconvenient as it is.
I still kick myself for letting a podunk dentist give me a crown.

definetly get another opinion, I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled at once by an exceptional dentist and it still was not a fun time.

I had 4 big teeth pulled like that. Later that day it was nothing but atomic bombs going off in my mouth. BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! all damn day long. Was worth it though. Do it. Get it over with.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once. It was pretty painful. It took longer than they anticipated and I woke up as they were pulling the third. They couldn't put me back under so I had to endure it. Even then, it was like a two day recovery from pain and then soft foods rest of the time. Not terrible.

I did that a few years back. I paid out of pocket and gave them extra coin to knock me out for the procedure...luckily, I was out for the whole thing. They prescribed Percocet for pain. I took one the first day after the local anesthesia wore off... After that, ibuprofen was all I needed to manage any pain or discomfort.

It's weird when you have a tooth pulled because the socket has to be packed with gauze and it takes time for it to heal up....but once it does you're good.

I had four teeth pulled - the four right behind my eye teeth. In addition, I ALSO had my wisdom teeth pulled for a total of 8 teeth yanked from my skull.

Sure get a second opinion, but if you have huge teeth like me, no alternative really. The pain of healing the yank wound will be overwhelmingly less painful than the years of moving teeth into correct position. Hope you like pudding. After yanking my teeth, I wore braces for just about 5 years to shift everything in place.

I don't have huge teeth, but i have small jaws. So i guess that amounts to the same thing. I spoke to another dentist and he pretty much said my teeth are crowded and for them to move to the correct place, some need to be pulled. So i guess that's that.

I'm not getting knocked out for it, I'll just scream nice and loud.

Oh you'll be numbed up good if your dentist has any sense. I was awake when mine were pulled. I couldn't feel a thing except a ton of pressure and torque applied to my jaw, and then my mouth filling with warm blood for hours/days. It's actually a really crazy experience. Good luck to you! You're in for literally years of pain and discomfort.

See another dentist. I do know if there is not enough room then the teeth will overlap each other. Even though I got 4 wisdom out my middle lower tooth fell behind the rest and eventually caused a root canal.

I had all 4 wisdom out done awake. The thought of being put to sleep is far more scary than staying awake. You can actually die from too much secret sleeping sauce.

I just felt some tugging and pulling and a few crunchy sounds. It wasn't that bad.

I had four teeth pulled when I was a teenager before getting braces. I also had my four wisdom teeth pulled when I was in my early 20's. I was knocked out both times so I didn't feel a thing.

Once the orthodontist gets done adjusting everything you won't even know you had those four teeth. Everything just sort of magically moves into place.

Well, getting them done this monday. Have to admit I'm surprisingly anxious about it, normally I'm pretty good with the dentist. What food did you guys eat afterwards and how long did it take before you could go back to eating normal food?

This is probably too late to help, but I ate soft foods like soup for a day or so after the surgery and then moved onto normal foods like burgers after that. I just avoided anything super hard or sticky until the stitches dissolved. You have to make sure to wash your mouth well after eating because food will collect in the spaces where your teeth used to be for awhile.

It was done a couple of days ago, and have to say it wasn't too bad. The worst thing was the needles into the roof of my mouth....holy moly that was unpleasant. But apart from that it went ok. I really feel like eating something solid.
