That's pretty much exactly my complaint. It's too heavy of an app for what I want to do. If I have 10 movies uploaded to it, and I want to add an 11th, it wants to go through and try and resync everything. And heaven forbid that I had it synced on a different machine and it freaks the f out and wants to delete everything on there from the 2nd computer. It's infuriating. Just let me plug it it, drag and drop in 2 minutes and be on with my wife. It does not need to be any more complicated than that.

WP8 devices work that way. Android works that. Apple wants me want to beat my computer with a crowbar trying to do menial tasks.

I very infrequently actually hook my i-device up to a computer. And I don't use iTunes to manage music or video content. It's simply a frustrating speed bump in the way of easily managing content on a portable device for me.

That's a fair point and the exact reason I moved from Apple to Android devices save for my Macbook Pro.

And yes, I do really love the Apple TV. It's more or less a glorified netflix streamer, but it's hands down the best one I've used. Interface is fast and useful, and the streaming video has almost never studdered or buffered in two years of using it. I can't make the same clame for various "smart tv's" I've used. Nearly every one of them turns into a studdering, buffering mess on HD content. The Apple TV never complains.
I use WD TV Live Streaming and a jailbroken Apple TV 2 with FireCore's Media Player. Both usually work fine with my MKV content but if anything, the WD TV Live is more bulletproof.

It should be noted that up until not too long ago, the Apple TV 2 did not support playback of any 1080p content, not even Apple's. It needed an iOS update to add 1080p support.

That's a fair point and the exact reason I moved from Apple to Android devices save for my Macbook Pro.
Ironically, one of the reasons I got rid of my Android phone to go back to the iPhone was I hate the lack of centralized syncing and backup on Android. It's just a PITA IMHO. It's not perfect on iTunes, but on Android, I find it to be a total mess.

BTW, I traded in that RAZR HD. They initially were only going to offer me $50 for it. Fifty frickin' bux for a dual-core 4.7" modern Android phone in good condition and a perfect screen. (Protector was on it since day one.) That's even less than what they would offer for a carrier-locked iPhone 4. Yes, the 4, not 4S. However, after some negotiating they agreed to increase it to $100, when I said I'd use that money to buy an iPhone 5 off them. $100 is what they offer for a mint carrier-locked iPhone 4. Again yes, the 4, not 4S. I believe they offer even more for an unlocked iPhone 4.

Anyhow, now I have an iPhone 5s, and my wife will have an iPhone 5, and I'll probably sell my carrier-locked iPhone 4 for a 3-digit $ number, 3.5 years after I bought it.

The thought of my phone being in any way tied to iTunes makes me ill.

I agree that the syncing and management are much more consistent with iOS products. What finally killed it for me was having to restrict my iPhone to syncing with one computer only. In my case I wasn't even syncing, simply manually managing my media but I still could only do it from one computer. My iPod Touch could accept media from multiple computers with no problems. My SSD died and I had to reinstall my OS and iTunes. Afterwards I had to wipe my phone to be able to get media back on it. Ridiculous. I put my iPhone up for sale less than a week later.

I guess if you are actually syncing your devices iOS probably wins easily. I always manually managed everything anyhow so there wasn't much of a difference between platforms for me.

Not the same thing, but I actually sync my wife's iPhone on two accounts. I sync it to my account for the apps and music, and I sync it to her account for contacts and calendar.

The other reason I like it is because of the backups. It is not complete, and I don't know why, because I think they should have a default option for syncing all images (with warnings that it might take up a ton of space) but they don't really. However, everything is backed up. On Android, true backups like that don't even exist unless you jailbreak.

I had not touched Apple products for years until I started my sysadmin job 2 years ago. Through my work I got an iPhone as all of our employees have iPhones. I really don't have any complaints about it other than I would prefer a larger screen like some other Android and Windows phones have. The app store definitely has the best selection of apps and games, though the Google Play store is catching up in that regard.

As part of my job I have to work with both Windows and Mac and I still am not a fan of OSX at all. People say it's intuitive, but I feel that things are simply too stripped down. Most advanced things are hidden away in the terminal. I think, like itunes, it's a case where advanced users that like to do a lot of customization will not like it.

I personally bought a 3rd generation iPad because of the retina display and because a lot of the apps I bought for my phone were cross compatible. I still use the iPad every day for my general web browsing, youtube, facebook, etc. It's also the highest resolution display I have in my home so I use it for looking at photos as well.

I don't think I will ever buy a Macbook though. I just don't care for OSX, and on the productivity side of things Office Mac is inferior by far to Office for Windows.

My biggest complaint about apple though is their lack of support for buiseness/enterprises. There is just no (good) apple equivalent for active directory or group policy. Getting them to integrate in our environment (both Mac's and iOS devices) has been pretty painful. It's a lot of 3rd party solutions and workarounds. And their support for enterprise it truly awful. I've been transferred 5 times just to get to someone who can understand the question I'm asking, and then the answer ends up being "known issue - may be fixed in the future."

I still hate iTunes. I would like to see Apple do a complete overhaul. It is completely awful.

All I need to be happy with iTune would be a "lite" version or direct transfer mode that basically worked like a file explorer for music/movies/pictures on the device. I don't want to have to add something to a library first, then be forced to sync, then move it over. I just want to be able to plug it in, copy, paste, unplug.

^thats one thing I envy with Droids. I was playing around with a buddy's new Zte Awe and you can check out all your file downloads and etc directly with a file manager. For an iPhone music has to be done thru itunes and etc. Sometimes i want a file manager built into the iOS system.

Well I took the advice and programmed the same thumb 3x. After a day it's still working fine which is encouraging. I'll update after a week.

It's almost a week and the TouchID accuracy has deteriorated once again. It works about 33% of the time now. It's big improvement from before when it would fail 100% by this time. Still this kind of failure rate is unacceptable and pretty much makes it useless since I'm wasting time at each incorrect reading attempt. It's more annoying than typing in the pin code which is annoying in itself. But since using the same print for 3 slots did improve the accuracy somewhat, I'm going to try using the same print for 5 slots and see if that helps.

That would be the main reason my ipod touch has not been updated in two plus years. I had itunes on my old desktop and when its mobo died I had no reason to reinstall itunes. I just use the ipod for light web surfing, you tube video watching and the little bit of music/videos I had already put on it.

I loathed itunes demanding I put all my media files into its "sphere of influence" as it were and then freaking out and trying to sync my ipod every damn time I hooked it up to the pc. "No you moronic program, I don't want you to delete those videos off the ipod but I don't need them in my itunes list anymore". It assumed you wanted it to run everything multimedia and it seemed to just not be worth the hassle to manage it so it wasn't annoying me. My e-reader tablet Nook running android can handle drag and drop file transfers just fine (its just effing married to Google is all...I mean you have to log into a google account to update frigging Chrome for pete's sake).

The only machine I will tolerate itunes running on is my newer mac mini which will probably end up being some sort of media pc. As for iphones, I understand the appeal or at least I used to due to using my ipod (decent UI) but I will never own a phone I cannot easily replace the battery for.

I started my Apple products back with the iPhone 3G when it was first released and all of my phones have been Apple since. I gravitated to a MacBook Pro in late 2009 when I was looking for a quality notebook to last me several years, and it did not disappoint. Four years later it's still working great with virtually never needing a reboot(other than updates). The only maintenance I've done is OS upgrades and installing a SSD just over a year ago. My next laptop will again be a MacBook Pro, but hopefully that's still a couple of years away. I just picked up an iPad Air as a gift for the GF and I can't justify purchasing one for myself since I have the laptop.

I started out with an iPhone 3G then switched to a Galaxy Nexus then switched back to an iPhone 5. Now I have an iPhone 5s and a Macbook Air.

I used to be an Apple hater but their attention to detail for user experience is just awesome...
