Getting my carpets steam cleaned, how does that work in a furnished room?

I've been living in my house for two years and decided it's time to get my carpets professionally cleaned.

I've only ever hired carpet cleaners after moving out of apartments. I've never had to deal with furniture before. Do they clean around the furniture? Do they move it and clean under it?

Dude, just move the furniture out of the room. How are they supposed to clean the carpet with tons of obstructions. Or you can "have them clean around it" so your carpet is two shades, dirty and clean.

Most of the furniture in the rooms I'm getting cleaned aren't really easily movable. Things like beds and large desks.

Furniture is moved then put back on Styrofoam blocks to keep it off the carpet.

Or they just go around it.

They will move it and possibly set the furniture on foam blocks to allow the carpet to fully dry out. You can remove the foam about a day later. I usually move any smaller tables, chairs, end tables out of the way but they can move the big stuff just fine.

You will pay a premium if they have to move the furniture!!
They just don`t show up at the home and move the furniture and then clean and put the furniture back!! That will never happen!! You will pay$$$!!

You seem excited.

Anyway, we'll see what happened. The company quoted me what seems like a reasonable price over the phone. It's about 50% more than what the chains are charging, but this is a smaller local company with awesome Yelp reviews. Unfortunately I forgot to ask about furniture.

Move the furniture out of the room. I had one break a post on a 50+ year old maple bed frame yanking it around to clean.

My entire upstairs is carpeted and I'm getting the entire floor cleaned.

1) Some of the furniture is super heavy and can't be moved without 2+ people.
2) Some of the furniture can't fit through a door way without being somewhat taken apart (beds, desks, etc).

If they have to clean around those, I can live with it. Hopefully, they'll be able to get close enough that it doesn't look stupid. I assume this is a common scenario and they'll do something reasonable.

A) Steam cleaning is more a hot rinse than cleaning, essentially a worthless step without real cleaning prior to it.

B) Phone and ad prices are usually a joke with zero relation to the total cost.

C) Real cleaning includes some kind of strong "soap" and scrubbing or agitation.

D) You can't really "clean" carpet in place, a nasty dirt layer will remain between the carpet and the pad or base floor.

Report back on how it goes, picts before and after maybe good.

Yeah. We'll see how this goes. There are two companies I found that clean with agitators and stuff, but they're booked for several months.

Heavy furniture sucks. My mom loves big heavy furniture. Sure some of it has beautiful wood/masonry work but damnit I hate moving her marble table.
