Just had mine pulled last Tuesday. I went the local anesthetic and it was OK. Bottom two were impacted but the whole process took less than 40 mins. FFWD a week and I've got some dry sockets. Not fun.

Damn man - hope it wasn't as bad for you as it was me. I had my done under a nice sedative - all 4 at once, with two impacted. I only got one dry socket - but a nice supply of pain pills made it bearable.

I have pain killers (oxycodone) but they're inhibiting me from getting any actual work done...gets me really drowsy. They also don't work as well as it should. I pop some Tylenols and that helps even though it's supposed to thin my blood a little.

Tell your mom to quit being cheap, it doesnt cost much more at all. When I had mine done it was like $1200 total and thats with all 4 impacted and turned all sorts of crazy directions. Besides you have insurance right?

I had my wisdom teeth out with general anesthesia and some awesome pain pills for a few days after. I was in little to no pain for the first few days, then a tiny bit after I stopped taking the pills since they were giving me really bad dreams... lol.

I just barely (Monday morning) had a gum graft done with local anesthesia and crappy motrin for the pain. It was really weird being awake while they were cutting away my gums and crap, but it was fine. The worst part was the actual shots.

Anyway, after having both procedures done, I would rather have my wisdom teeth out again, to be honest. Getting put to sleep + awesome pain killers = a few really good days.

I had a local and I had a great oral surgeon. I told him I wanted to be on nitrous the whole time just because I like it and he was cool with that. It was a fun operation.

I went under for all 4 of mine.

I can't remember how many were impacted but one of them was rotting away because I could reach back that far to brush it.

Woke up and was bleeding like a SOB. Took nearly a week for all the bleeding to stop.

Never really had much pain, just shit tons of bleeding.

I went under for mine so I don't know what to tell you, but based on other posters here who just got it numb you will probably be fine with that. However, I highly recommend that during the day of the operation that you nicely request to have extra Novocaine. They are usually ok with that and don't charge you extra. If they happen to ask why just tell them that it has never worked fully in the past unless you were given a little extra.

After getting general for my wisdom teeth (3 hr surgery, they were badly impacted), I won't go back. I have to get a couple of fillings, and then a couple more replaced. If they'll put me under, I'm doing it. Nothing makes me anxious like getting work done at the dentist, and I'm really not a high strung type. Can't explain it.

I have a hard time believing it took 3 hours to remove you're teeth. If they were that badly impacted, the doc most likely would have never recommended removing them unless you had some pathology associated with it. And I hope you realize if you don't see your dentist for those fillings you will either be seeing an endodontist for a root canal or oral surgeon in the future when they become broken and/or get infected and blow up your face so big you can't open and need them to slice open your face to drain out the pus.

Point by point: 3.5 hrs in the OR, including the first phase of an implant for a front tooth I lost playing sports. They told me that'd normally be a 30 min procedure in the office.

Second: He wanted them out because the root was growing into the nerve canal. He said it was likely they'd become painful later in life and it was just better to do it younger and deal with the pain now.

Third: I'm aware. There's a chance they have to come out, but they first want to see how the gums heal around it after the wisdom teeth came out. As I said, they told me the depth wasn't bad and not to worry yet, especially since it might be for nothing. If I feel any pain, they want me to go in ASAP, of course, but I was told to just keep the area as clean as I can to ensure it all heals up.

I appreciate you attacking me like I'm some sort of idiot not under the care of educated, licensed doctors, though.

Not an attack. I'm calling you out about exaggerating your procedure time. Now you say 3.5hours with implant placement. 3 hours including pre-op and recovery maybe, not OR time.
