First I sprained my ankle last weekend right before my son's birthday party, just walking to my car to get the rest of the pizzas. I rolled my ankle in a spot I walk probably 4+ times a day.

Then today I'm doing my normal chest routine and doing my first exercise, flat bench barbell, and after my normal warmup of 5 sets, I do my first set and got 8 reps easily so I stepped it up to a weight I've done many times before, and on the second rep I pulled my left pec.

I stopped doing chest exercises immediately, could only do half of my tricep routine due to the pain, then left after that, so I am hoping by next Thursday I'll be able to do chest, even if it's just light weight.

I made a thread about unexpected fitness injuries recently, could the reason for yours be the same: warm-ups?

I dunno I stretch for a bit on my chest and shoulders, and then I do like 4-5 warmup sets before I start my "real" working sets. I didn't go any heavier than usual either or anything out of the ordinary.

It feels better this morning but still hurts when I move certain ways.

People say that, but it isn't really true. Not like there's dead people sitting around thinking "This sucks!". It's the same situation as before you were hatched; nothing.
I'd disagree. Lost my oldest sister, a couple months before her 52d birthday. She had just become a grandma, about 16 months earlier, and was very sorry that she wouldn't get to enjoy her new granddaughter more.

There's always something you want to do that death inconveniently dicks up, but as soon as you die, you don't want to do it anymore. Appreciate what you have this minute, cause you can't have everything, and there's no guarantee you'll get a next minute.

Welcome aboard mate!

I am over 55 now, and have accumulated a laundry list of injuries over the decades. It certainly brings challenges. You have to keep adapting your fitness methodology as you age.

My experience is that dynamic stretching followed by static stretching, does wonders for preventing strains, pulls, sprains, all that jazz. Technique, as you being into lifting weights fully understand, is paramount. Diet and sleep obviously play a role too. Technique extends to everything, even walking.

My best advice is to branch out what you do physically, if you have been following a routine for a good while. Particular attention to how and what you do to warm up and warm down. That's been essential for me anyways.

I went through the getting old sucks stage. Not being able to pull off the stuff I could when I was younger was frustrating, and I resisted and lamented it for a few years. Once I embraced the reality, I changed how I fight, surf, strength train, whatev. I can't kick, jump, move, etc. like when I was younger so I adapted. You will too.

That immediately makes me question your footwear, were your shoes laced up correctly all the way? Sucks that happened.

Nah it was just me not paying attention. It is where there are flowers growing usually next to my driveway but it's not fully spring yet so they aren't there, and there is like an inch or so gap from my driveway to the flowerbed and I just misjudged it.

Go to about 7 seconds in and put it in .25x speed. It's pretty nasty in slow mo lol.

I edited the video so it's shorter but now it's at about 3 seconds in. Put to .25x speed to see some pain.

Things do change, and yes it can suck. Muscles stay sore longer from a hard workout/trying something new. The snapback is not so quick. I have made a conscience effort to stretch more at the beginning and end of a workout. Adds time, but helps overall. At 48, gone are the days of just showing up and working out, then leaving.

Yeah, I'm starting to notice that injuries/strains take longer to heal at the ripe old age of 37. I pulled something in my lower back shoveling snow almost a month ago, and it's just starting to get better.

Some of you fall apart like a lego statue. I've had some minor health issues but nothing serious that couldn't be fixed. I go through a bottle of wine a week. Not expensive but not bottom shelf. My body responds well to the resveratol. When it comes to liquor I drink as few of the aged stuff as I can and often stick with a plain vodka on ice and soda. I try and consume as little refined sugar and opt for fruit or honey instead. Try it, you'll avoid Igor giving you a pec massage...

I walk. I seldom run. I enjoy hiking. I live as stress free as possible.
