And the season has just started. Just a boiler tomorrow and i'm done for the week I hope. Started off the week with an easy re/re gas furnace..next day an electric to gas, and now a boiler tomorrow.

Can you guys tell me your favourite vacation spots. I'm genuinely curious what they are.

Seems like people use boiler and furnace interchangeably. Are they the same thing? I always called the forced hot air systems furnaces and steam or hot water boilers.

ATOT is my favorite vacation spot. The locals are looney but that's what keeps it interesting I guess.

Would you want Mayne to install your furnace or boiler?

I sure would.

That depends. Is he going to show up drunk or high? Because his post history indicates he often gets drunk and high. So either he lied in his posts, which makes him dishonest, or he enjoys getting drunk and/or high. Good luck with that.

furnaces heat air, boilers heat water. so they are not the same.

Yeah that's what I figured. I suppose he means he does both. Though I've seen other posters use the terms interchangeably.

So is Humpy or Mayne going to answer that phone? Go ahead take a risk and answer it, it's ringing.

Easy money though. Installing them is fairly routine, and homeowners are generally oblivious to how much the heating/cooling companies are buying them for and marking them up. Making money on the purchase, and making money on the install.

Hey I'll need a new one soon my current forced hot air furnace runs about 82% efficient (oil). Do you work in MA?
Its estimated to have been installed in mid to late 80's.

Exactly!

I'm assume he would share with me though. :|

Also, I don't think it's possible to lie on ATOT, we are merely players.

What's a furnace? Is that what you have to use instead of kicking on the central heat for a few minutes to knock the chill off in the morning? I wouldn't live where you can potentially die from the cold.

Getting into HVAC has crossed my mind if ever I lose my job. Lot more work physically compared to a desk job, but decent money, and once you know the systems it's fairly routine. Furnaces are surprisingly not as complicated as they look when you first open them. A/C units a re a bit more involved when it comes to dealing with the actual refrigerant, but probably not that hard with right tools.

I can't help but laugh at these companies that want to rent hvac equipment out for like $100/mo. "but if it breaks it wont cost you anything!" That's a big if. The pressure switch in mine started to act up last year, I was using crocodile clips to "kick start" the furnace (switch was stuck open, so it would fail the startup check) while I get time to find one. I got a new one form a local hvac place for about $60 and replaced it in about 15 minutes. As a HVAC tech I could charge someone $300 + parts + tax for that call.

Just had both furnace and a/c replaced. Good units, questionable installers. I'm sure they were pros but they didn't act like it.

Kind of the same with everything, but yeah, residential oriented work seems to be about the worst for that.

We are poor so to hell with that. Unless the tools required are along the lines of some $5000 unit on up, better off buying materials, adding any additional tools, and doing it myself.

Might take longer but I'll know it was done right and the total cost is significantly cheaper.

Could let the thread just die in the basement, not sure why everyone wants to bump it.
