getting SMART info off a Sil 3114 controller?

on my old d975xbx mobo, the drives connected to the intel matrix sata ports show up when i check SMART info but none of the drives on the Sil sata ports show up.

am i missing something or is it just not supported?

Im interested in knowing too, since I have a 4 port PCI card with the SiL3114. Did you try different SMART tools to check it? Try going to the Silicon Image site and updating to the newest firmware.

mine's onboard. seatools, WDs own, and speedfan don't pick it up. i'm not sure you can update onboard in that way can you? isn't it all a part of the bios itself?

Hmm I dont know anything about onboard. With my PCI SiL3114 based card, I can just go into the device properties in device manager and there is a section that lets you upload new firmware from a file and update it.

I know this is a very old post, but since Google lists the question close to the top, I thought I'd add the answer to it.


The way to get an Intel D975XBX Motherboard to recognize individual drives (not in a Raid set) on the Blue Silicon Image SATA 3114 headers is to remove any drivers you installed, delete or rename any associated Sil 3114 INF files in the windows/inf directory and reboot.

You can find the INF files by using search,[word or phrase in the file] and look for "Si3114"
It will be in an OEMxx.inf file.

When Windows detects the Raid controller, just hit cancel and do not install any drivers.

If will complain about the device not being installed correctly, but the four ports will all revert to non-raid and any devices you have connected will function normally.

If you want to use it as Raid again later, simply re-install the Raid drivers from Intel's web site.
