Getting tired of Skyrim already. Characters are wooden, quest fatigue.

I'm not a good player by any means and I'm playing on the wimpy default settings (adept? whatever it is) but I'm level 42 already. Yea I died a few too many times but i'm getting better
(just hate the stupid require companion quests cause they tend to be useless)

Anyways not sure why you are finding level 15 the barrier. Btw I'm playing a mostly gimped archer that sneaks a lot. No clue about other builds; still on my first character.

Hum. When will I have to fight a dragon ?

Welp, I am officially done with Skyrim. Paid full price, got about 20 hours out of it, and I'm done. Just like Oblivion I guess, but different problem. I made two characters, a mage and a fighter. Both characters, when I got around to level 15 or so, just became completely unplayable. I guess there is some kind of difficulty wall built into the game at that level because with both characters, once I hit level 15, every single enemy just became an unkillable juggernaut. Random bandits and bears 1-shot me through blocks. Or my mage spends his whole mana bar to get a single enemy down to 80% health.

I don't know what they were thinking when they designed the leveling system in this game. Or really, I can't fathom how anyone has managed to get past level 15 or so. Do you guys just drop the difficulty down to the minimum? Or use some sort of cheat or mod which alters the gameplay?

There are a few mobs which are a PITA to kill so far [level 9]

- Trolls
- Giants [one literally clubbed me into orbit around Skyim]
- Witches - luckily most of them just hover in one area so you can pick them off with arrows - but the spells they cast are very deadly

Skyrim uses pretty much the same "explore" formula that Oblivion and Fallout 3 used - you have the main points listed on your map while a lot of the smaller cool stuff has to be found.

I really hope this game gets a decent sale come X-Mas time.

As much as I dislike the Elder Scrolls games, I really want to play this one, for some reason. I'm bound and determined to not get sidetracked with too many piddly quests and massive stat categories that I would never use, anyway. And no--I will not horde. Will not horde, you hear me! No!

Of course I had the best spells available. Are you letting Lydia kill everything for you? Because I am playing solo without party members.

If anything Lydia gets in the way more than not. Once she closes I'm locked out of using Chain Lightning, because otherwise she has a nasty habit of getting killed. Although she does make a half decent distraction in longer fights.

just make sure to grab some texture packs. whatever you can find. The textures are really bad in this one. And i'm not sure about everyone else, but i swear there is less citizens per town and far less travelers than what Oblivion had by default.
But its still fun to play regardless, as long as you don't expect much difference from Oblivion.

I think the crux of the problem *IS* that the characters and NPCs are so forgettable. Why do you even do the quests? For the character in question that is requesting it. And the main quest you do because you're trying to save Skyrim itself (meaning its inhabitants).

But spending all this effort to do things for NPCs that are at best thinly disguised robots with no personality, aspirations, and real backstory whatsoever sucks.

*possible Half Life and Mass Effect spoilers*

I don't really remember a single Bethesda NPC. I remember having amazing fun with HK-47 in KOTOR and being really torn when I had to decide which members of my party had to die in Mass Effect. Or sad when Alyx's father died. Or feeling fulfilled after completing one of my squad mate's personal quests in KOTOR or Mass Effect.

I feel no such thing with these epic Bethesda games. Sure, there's a somewhat interesting main quest, but everything else is so downright boring because there's no real connection with any of the characters, and the characters are at the center of any quest, really. They're the reason you're even doing the quest. Without that, it's just another "let's see what other cool spells and items and peaks I can get" game.

I can agree here completely. I've not touch Skyrim but played Fallout 3 and Oblivion. Oblivion I got 50 hours in or something and gave up. I only made it 10 hours into fallout 3. Bethesda games strike me as being wandering and lost. I have no investment in people...no remorse for killing, no incentive to help other than "gimme money!" Bioware in past has given you people to care about. But Bioware games are more on the rails, not as expansive. Bethesda games seem to me to be for people who want to roleplay....and that isn't me.

Acting in bethesda games starts strong (Oooh, it's Captain Picard! Yay! Patrick Stewart WEEE. He's king! Yay! Wait, what? You killed him? Screw you guys. Same with Liam Neeson...) and just gets bad then. Wooden is a term that comes to mind. Oh well...

I'm the opposite with the Fallout games--though I also think I will never finish them, heh. The mechanics are identical between those in the Elder Scrolls games: massive open world, near-limitless choices and play styles. a somewhat mediocre main quest that can be ignored, endless quests and choices to make, loot, loot, loot, hording, loot, etc.

But I tend to like Fallout more, I suppose because of the setting, which I think is done flawlessly. Each individual quest aside, I am completely drawn into those worlds. I actually think some of those characters are really well done, though--inducing empathy in the player or whatever. I think New Vegas is probably better than FO 3 though, and the choices you make and characters you meet are more grey than black & white.

Well I never really liked obliviion; though I did finish. I think skyrim is way better (quest structure). That's not to say I think skyrim is the best - it isn't. Had a lot more fun with dks - but i find it playable. Can't comment on fallout 3; need to go back and finish it (started it; then moved and haven't had a chance to go back - it started out with a punch but then i got lost when i went off the main quest route and started exploring)

Actually the main quest in Fallout 3 is freakin awesome. The multiple invasions and shootouts of the Memorial, finding 3 Dog after a Behemoth battle, the Enclave fortress, the Iron Giant, all good stuff. Of course the Alien Mothership and Alaska were wild rides too.
Ditto New Vegas with raiding the Hoover Dam and actual choices to make in the saga of Good Vs. Evil.
Also VATS helps a crapload when those huge battles start to get messy. My biggest complaint with the giant melees in Oblivion was you couldnt fight without hitting your own guys and causing problems. They obviously didnt playtest that stuff very well. Its especially bad when trying to use ranged spells.

If you wanna speed up the boring parts of the game, I HIGHLY recommend a house mod that includes inventory sorters, such as Bunker 72.

Manually digging through crap is so tiresome.
Also recommend a mod that increases Caps on merchants. Moira is probably the best one to boost, since she also has a big side quest and you will be spending lots of time with her.
