well here is my problem. I have a 20 gig hd and 60 gig hd. I want windows XP on the 20 gig. I had win2k on there before and went to do a fresh install but I couldn't seem to be able to format the 20 gig hd through the windows xp install so I just installed it on there, not thinking. Now I have a dual boot between xp and 2k. Soooooo... I thought to myself 'ill just install xp onto the 60gig hd, format the 20, install xp on the 20 and format the 60 and everything will be good.'.... will this work? I know it's not the best way to go about it, but I really don't have anything to do tonight, and it's the I'm most familiar doing things this way.... Please tell me it will work!!!

If you'd rather have it on the 20 gig and dont mind losing anything thats on the 20gig, just boot from the XP cdrom and use the built in utility to delete the 20gig HD partition and format it in NTFS.. then you have a fresh install of XP on the 20gig.. The XP cd SHOULD give you the option to delete the partition on the 20gig drive and to format it prior to install. If it doesnt, I'm not sure why.

but if you wanna do it the other way than yes, that will work(if for some reason the formate util isnt working)

Well for some reason my little plan dosen't seem to be working, my guess is that XP dosen't like it's users deleting other OS's... I can live with my OS on the 60 gig, but how in the he** do I get the other systems off so I only have one system? Just format the 20 gig? Last time I tried that the format through windows wouldn't complete, how do I get into dos on XP?

That is really strange becuase if you follow the right prompts booting from the XP cd it should give you the option to format the partition.

i cant remember the exact options to follow but it should be easy.,

if worst come to worst you can just use partition magic to rearrange stuff like you like it then reformat and copy the os to the different drive..

you can boot from a win98 disk and do it that way.. here is a description Linkification
