If you are staying in Midtown, I really love Zocalo's Sat/Sunday all-you-can-eat buffet brunch (casual also). I've eaten there alone and taken girls there and they seem to like it too. Wasn't that impressed with their dinner offerings though. They have the buffet open until 2 PM, which gives you time to work up a good appetite. Plus you can go for a nice walk in Piedmont Park afterwards to burn it off, its right across the street. There is a botanical garden in the park but I've never checked it out if that's your thing. Most people would recommend the Flying Biscuit but that place is always so crowded and while I remember it being good, I didn't think it was extraordinary.

We've had really good luck at the Wyndham in Midtown, service has been excellent, and its a fairly classy place, but not too pricey. Even got a couple of guys from there to help me unload a UHaul into my apartment right down the street (Descarts and I live across the street from each other). Nothing unique about it though like the other places posted, but it is very close to the MARTA station, Piedmont Park, Georgia Tech, and other midtown attractions. Free internet, and I got free beer (Corona) and cookies (join their priority club, its free).

Smiths Old Tavern is good for night life, and I had one of the best steaks I've ever had at Houston's. If you're there on Sunday, remember that you can't buy alcohol outside of a restaraunt.

Don?t know what you?re all about, but P. Diddy?s restaurant is in Atlanta (Justin?s), as well as one of Emeril?s restaurant. Never actually been to either, but tossing those out there. I am a fan of the Imperial Fez for a slightly different experience. It?s Moroccan food, no utensils, shoes off, sitting on the floor, belly dancers ? great fun (Imperial Fez). I?m a vegetarian, but everyone I know loves Fogo de Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse (Fogo de Chao). You pay a flat fee, and they basically bring you skewers of various meats until you tell them to stop. Along the same vein, you could check out Bones, another steakhouse (Bones).

As for places, I?d hit up the Aquarium, the Coke Factory, and the Krispy Kreme on Ponce. That place has been there forever, and you get to watch the assembly line machine action of glazing doughnuts. The FOX theatre (The Fox) is a cool place to check out and see something (if there?s anything worthwhile playing), and it?s right down the street from a Gordon Biersch, where they brew their own beer.

Since I lived there, I never had a need for a hotel, but I used to work down the street from the Westin, which would be really nice (The Westin). If you?re looking for some swanky stuff, this may not be up your alley, but the Highland Inn (Highland Inn) is one of those quaint little holes in the wall to stay, right next to Virginia Highlands, close to Little 5 Points (quirky part of town), and close to Midtown and Piedmont Park. It definitely won't have a jacuzzi though.

I think someone else mentioned it, but if you?re in to breweries, check out Sweetwater (Sweetwater Brewery). It?s the local brew for Atlanta, and they do ?tours? every week, which essentially means you pay a few bucks, and then drink till your heart?s content.

There?s a bunch more things I could describe, so hit me up if you want to know anything. I'm getting nostalgic.

But...I had the best burger ever at Vortex. Cool college-type atmosphere. Think it's right on Peachtree (long street though).

not only are the burgers great, but the atmosphere is cool as hell...think biker bar gone crazy...oh yea, go to the one in Little 5 Points...so you can see all the wierdos...it's a step better than the one on peachtree

This might be weird, but I loved riding in the elevators of the downtown Marriott! They are super fast and crazy! Elevators are glass. It's just a few minutes walk from the Hard Rock Cafe.

Go there for sure! It is so nice. The coke museum and Underground Atlanta really arent that great, probably fun if you are looking for a very touristy type thing. Visiting CNN is also alright.

The Shakespeare Tavern is fun, dinner with a play http://www.shakespearetavern.com/

Yeah, but only because it's something of an icon for Atlanta. It has a lot of history, but there are far better burgers to be had in the area. The Vortex on Peachtree St. NE is closest.

Can't beat their chili-dogs, though. Eat them at least twice every time I'm Atlanta which is 4 or 5 times a year. Hell, I even make friends of mine grab a box of 8 or 10 if they are driving back up here. Put them in the fridge and have them the next day too.

I went last Jan and will NEVER voluntarily return to that city. The place is one big dump.

Haha... just because you had to stay in a dump, doesn't mean the city is a dump.

I guess the suburbs aren't dumpy but the city was. I was hassled more by bums in ATL than in NYC. I wouldn't suggest going in the winter.

you got tricked!

personally I always like to make the plans on trips that I go on, that way I get to do what I want. My guess is by taking him, that means she is paying..besides maybe she's not a regular poster on ATOT and doesn't have the awesome feedback/flaming system available..

Ray's on the River is currently closed for renovations.

But if they happen to open by the time you get to Atlanta in February, you have to eat there. Take some $$$ - they are kind of expensive.

Maybe the other two "Ray's" restaurants are just as good?
