I'm not entirely sure what happened, but sometime yesterday she became really really pissed at me and won't talk to me abou what is wrong. Damn women.

It started as we were chatting on AIM in classes and she said I could probly guess what she got me for V-Day. I told her I only had one guess (a new weight bar, sold the 7-footer 'cuz its too big and I need a 4-5 foot bar) because she was asking me questions about what kind of bar to get the other night. I told her I hoped she didn't get me that because you don't get your SO something "practical" like that for V-Day, you get/do something that just puts a smile on the person's face, you know like "sweet" and sh!t.

Well she seemed to get irritated at that point, said something about "its the amt of thought you put into the gift." I again explained that I just meant a weight bar isn't an appropriate V-Day gift, but of course it didn't get through. I don't know if she got me the bar or not, but she definitely got pissed. I made a comment about "and yet again i've done something wrong" and told her to just sleep on the couch, because she's been finding sh!t to be pissed at me about a lot lately.

Now she refuses to talk to me about wtf happened, why she actually slept on the couch (other than to be a bitch), or explain why she's so damn pissed off. If she's making this damn big of a deal because she bought me something I don't think is the right kind of gift for V-day, I'm gonna be pissed myself. This is just ****** ridiculous. When do you say enough is enough after 4.5 years?

EDIT Oh yeah, and we were planning to celebrate V-Day this weekend since we're both busy on the actual day; she told me she has no desire to go out, to give me presents, or to receive my presents. Talk about a damn drama queen

i'd be happy if i got something i actually wanted as a gift.

i'd be happy if i got something useful as a gift.

don't give into the media hype!

my 2 cents. I'm buying my girlfriend a bicycle for v-day (i was going to get her new brakes, but she got them fixed already)

Useful gifts are the best! Why would you want some crap that's going to make you happy for 2 seconds? I'm with the girl on this one.

are you sure you're a guy? what kind of guy doesn't want a useful gift? I have yet to meet a guy who wants something not very useful for a gift. Oh, and you're an ass.

I second the opinion that you're an ass. She got you the weight bar. The really likes you (for some reason that's not clear to me at this point), she thought about it real hard, and she probably spent more money than she should have to get you something she thought you'd really like. Then you, completely lacking in social graces, f'ed it up. You deserve to spend the next five years living a a trailer with two illegitimate children and a 250-lb alcoholic wife.

Ass.

I agree at some level, and I wouldn't like make a big deal about it; I'm not that much of an ass. Its just that we don't have a lot of opportunities to be a "couple." We're both full time students, both have jobs, and now her 17 year old sister is living with us in a 2-story 1200 sq ft condo. That doesn't leave much time for "us" and I really wanted this weekend to be....romantic? Not quite the word I'm looking for, but I think you get my drift. I bought her a pretty sexy outfit from VS (pants, top, underwear ) and I was really excited about that.

She's not "romantic" or anything like that, in any way. For example, I wanted to go to a nice restaurant (partially as that kind of fits the nice clothes thing) for V-Day (doesn't everyone?), but she wanted to go to Fuddruckers.

NEVER EVER EVER tell your SO you don't want something that you think they've gotten you. EVER. You were picking a fight over something she did for you. WTF is wrong with you? Then you take it a step further and tell HER to sleep on the couch. Way to go, Einstein.

You've been with this girl 4.5 years, and you still haven't learned to give her, her way?
You have to do that with women.. thats just the way they are..
If they give you a gift; accept it gratefully.. even though deep inside.. you really don't care for it too much.... and vice versa...

OP: You're at least as much of a drama queen as she is. Don't talk about gifts like that when you know she's already done it - why can't you just accept it graciously? If she didn't care, she could have just bought you a damn card for $1.85. But she didn't. If you want her around on V-Day, you'd better start apologizing now.
