GF2 MX - Heat sink ( Ocing )

Hi

( sorry for the english, I am not speeking very good )

I have a GF2 MX from Hercules.

I just buy a Blue Orb ( I want to do some OC ) but I need to remove the heat sink.

I heard a lot of stories about how to remove it but I also heard that it is very dangerous.

Can you help me with step by step ?

I donot have any guarrante on this video card, and it costs a lot of money.

The heatsink is held on by two small push-in clips. I took mine off by pinching the ends on the other side of the board with a pair of small pliers. This will make pulling them out easier.

be glad they aren't glued on anymore...what a nightmare.

here's an easier way. go buy a can tech freeze spray should run about five bux at any electronics store. spray the heatsink for about five seconds. Heatsink should be ice cold now. This stuff and it will make the thermal paste that used to attach the heatsink to the gpu very brittle and now just take a screw drive and pop it off. easiest and safest way i can think of

1. Remove the original heatsink(use one of the methods metioned above)
2. Clean the surface of the blue orb and the chip
3. Use either thermal epoxy(you have to buy) or thermal tape(came with the blue orb) and stick the fan to the chip

Note: If the blue orb does not fit, it is okay to take out a fin or two. You can also file it if it is not that serious.

I do not have a Hercules MX yet(I just bought one on the internet).
The posts ealier have a conflict in them. I am not sure if the Hercules MX uses thermal epoxy or just a pin to hold it together.
