XP needs special, Microsoft-certified, drivers to work with the OS... Well, they fear you with a huge warning explaining that you'll go to Hell when you die if you're not doing what they tell you. That's why they will distribute Microsoft-certified drivers on Microsoft-certified website (i.e. WindowsUpdate). For what? Microsoft-certified control. That's why you should hate XP.
So, W2K drivers will work with XP, but maybe not as good as you would want to, because Microsoft-certified could cripple some software with Microsoft-certified stuff that could, for example, stop a program from running unless they are using Microsoft-certified drivers. However, for the current beta, W2K non-Microsoft-certified drivers should do the work.
(I'm not kidding 'bout that, and they want to control some other things, sadly)
