The specs on the Ultra are incredible, even though it's built on the older 0.18u process. And the visiontek version came with a DVI connector as well! The only real improvement for the Ti200 is full programmble DX8 support. Am I missing anything else? Cause i'm getting the Ultra (albeit used) since the Ti200 is still over $100 retail.

The GF3 is supperior in just about every way.

Performance with current drivers is ~30-50% higher, it has more features, and most Ti200's are very overclockable, I have mine running at 250/250-DDR core/mem.

I'd definately go Ti200 unless you're getting that Ultra for extremely cheap.

The GF3 Ti200 canes the GF2 Ultra in performance and features. Don't waste your time with the Ultra.

Yes, the GF3 TI200 bitch slaps the GF2 Ultra. I have a GF2 Pro running at Ultra speeds and I just built a PC for a friend with a GF3 TI200. Even though I have a faster CPU, his machine bitch slaps mine on games! Yes, it is very sad. I'm going to have to get a freakin' GF4 TI4600 soon because my card sucks ass with the newer games. On Spider Man:The Movie (at 1280x1024x32 with everything maxed) I get less than 1FPS with a lot of action. VERY annoying!! Like BFG10K said, "Don't waste your time with the Ultra."

Hmmm... i guess even the best GF2 cards get no respect anymore these days Ok, thanx for the input, i'm only getting the Ultra if it's under $50 then.

Here's the difference , best score I had on 3dmark2001se with geforce2ti was 5496{270/480 +.3vagp slot}, best score with geforce3ti200 is 8389, so far, { 236/472 +.1v agp slot} running both on the same system.

Just hooked up my new GF3ti200 and am amazed at the improvement - I really didn't expect this much! Gainward GF3ti200 is the way to go - insane overclocking potential and only $124 +s/h from Newegg

3dmark 2001se scores 6451 w/ just the standard clock speeds on the Gainward, lots of people are pushing 8000. Gainward even has a 3yr warranty, which is pretty good for a vidcard.

And nope, I'm not an employee of Newegg or Gainward

Bigjon nice score out of the box , what mhz is your cpu at and what are the Gainwards standard clock speeds out of the box ,also is it a 128mb ddr or a 64mb ddr?

you should expect big difference, they're 2 different generation cards.
it doesn't matter for one being tweaked to higher core/memory and one being tweaked to lower core/memory,
they're still 2 different generation cards.

Would a PIII-850 (100fsb) be the bottleneck for the Ti200? That's my underlying reason for starting this thread.

It is the nature of systems and processes that when you eliminate one bottleneck, you necessarily create another.

No, it won't be a problem at all. It's better to go with a Ti200 than an Ultra, it will be faster especially at higher res.
