LOL. He gives you a link showing you how poor the Radeons FSAA is then you say "Go for a Radeon". The Radeon's a pretty good card (drivers still suck a little). If FSAA is of no concern to a person, then by all means "Go for a Radeon".

BTW- Click on the no FSAA Giants shot, then click on the 4X FSAA Giants shot. Notice a difference? I don't. Thats exactly what I experienced when trying out FSAA on my Radeon.

I'll take a screen shot of how giants looks on my system.

Edit:

Man doesn't look as good as it does in-game and after compression....
(Print screen and pasted into photoshop and saved for web)

D3D Settings:
no vsync
no compressed texture format

z-buffer depths, 16;24;32, 8bit stencil checked

no anti-aliasing

Dithering Method when alpha blending: Use error diffusion dithering

<< Really?.... now which birdie told you that..You really should do some research before you start talking out of your bottom. >>

[siiighhhh] Okay LSD, what's your point? Out with it.
I've only researched bloody video cards to death. I'm sick of them.
I make all this effort to buy "the best" video card and I realize how few games I play that need it! In fact, I play too many games already! (Taking a LOT of my study time away! BAD!)
In fact, I've decided it's time to sell the Geforce DDR while it's still valuable (get my money back since Onvia won't return it.) Sell/Give the games away, and concentrate solely on my studies and downtime can be spent on music composition. (Trick is, MAME works on any video card.... have to remove that too.)

So gimme' a break LSD... I've had enough of multipass texturing, dual or quad pipes, vertexes, fill rates, anti-aliasing, bump mapping and the whole stinking nine yards! I now know far more about video card than I ever care to know and wish that I knew COBOL so completely!
I'm no idiot, I've done my research - far too much of it. Having read up on seemingly hundreds of different reviews on dozens of video cards, only to realize too late that it was all a big bloody waste of time has more than soured the whole experience.

It almost makes me want to buy a Mac. No... those have 3dfx/ATI/nVidia wars now too... *click*BANG!*
I should sell the whole darn thing and get a compact lil' BookPC with i810 graphics and be done with it.

Dinosaurs need love too!
I love my V5500, but then I only play Quake2.
It looks awesome and cranks out the FPS at 1024.
I don't know anything about the settings so I guess it's not a fair comparison, but what I saw on my buds PC with his GTS card wasn't as great looking as mine at all.

Its not as great looking on your buds pc unless he plays a game like giants with bump mapping.Other than that my 5500 looks better than my mx.This 5500 will hold me over till i get the Radeon2 or the nv20.

demenion, what drivers are you using? I read that Giants needs 7068 drivers to get the effects working properly.

The 7062 and 7068 drivers fix a lot of the Giants problems. The textures are still too bright with the Radeon though. With the Voodoo 5 and GeForce, the textures don't seem as bright and look better. I had to turn off lens flair with the Radeon or else I'd only get a white screen at the beginning of the game. Plus, I also had to turn off environmental mapping or else the textures in the environmental mapping would become corrupt. Check out the first part of the game with the into sequence. Those purple and white environmental textures on the ship aren't suppose to be there. All of the object that used environmental mapping had this problem with both drivers.

This is an copy paste of a post I made in another thread referring to the exact same screenshot comparison.
[ctrl+v]
Hey peeps,

I am the guy responsible for that screenshot comparison.

Yep. Little ole me.

Lets get a few things out in the open real quick-like.

I did that comparison to support an assertion I was making about graphically rich gaming environments reducing the number of disconnects your brain makes when fighting off total immersion. I did not do it to compare a discontinued $150 card vs. the the all-powerful wallet-draining megalith that is the GeForce2 Ultra. I didn't do it to ruin the experience that Voodoo5 owners have. I also didn't do it to fake anyone out, or show off my mad photoshop skillz. I simply did it to recreate the experience I had at a lan party, where I had the opportunity to see identical machines (sans video adapter) running the exact same game with DRASTIC differences in overall visual quality.

I love the Voodoo5 I have, and until I had seen Giants on the GF2Ultra, I had absolutely ZERO bitches with it. Even now, I am not bitching about the Voodoo5 (whats the point in that?) but I am giving some credit where credit is due. If game developers (like planet moon) take the time to write for the additional features of the GF2 line of cards, it is capable of producing very rewarding effects.

I was (and still am) a total V5 fan when it was introduced because of the immersive benefits of it's fine FSAA. Check my review of it if there is any question (http://fullon3d.com/reports/voodoo5-5500/)

To Voodoo Owners: DO NOT ENJOY YOUR CARDS... ENJOY YOUR GAMES. After all, who cares what other people say. If you are able to walk away from your machine having thoroughly enjoyed your game then your 3d accelerator is doing it's job perfectly.

To GF2 Owners: DO NOT ENJOY YOUR CARDS... ENJOY YOUR GAMES. Sound familiar? If so, why are you reading other people's mail? That was specifically addressed to VOODOO OWNERS. Just like a GeForce Owner to be prying like that... On the serious tip.. BUY GIANTS. It is one of the few games out there that totally showcases your cards power and it is a scream to boot. Just remember, even if you shelled out 500 smacks, there are instances in which the V5 is a superior card (low-res high FSAA situations typically).

Remember folks, it is all about the GAME. The game is the reason our cards are as powerful as they are today and why they will be more powerful tomorrow. I love video cards, but only in that they make it easier for me to love my games.

and I am out....

BW-

No, the FPS counter in Giants looks nothing like that.

JP-

"I did that comparison to support an assertion I was making about graphically rich gaming environments reducing the number of disconnects your brain makes when fighting off total immersion."

Yes, and 3dfx is the least effective at it. They failed to support features that could be used to aid in the continual progress of visual immersion(trilinear, anisotropic, DotProduct3, EMBM and hardware T&L to name a few).

There are many people on this board that insist that the features 3dfx failed to support do nothing to aid in this aspect. They stated over and over again for years that 3dfx supported every feature needed by any game and by the time a game came out the utilized the features 3dfx would have a board ready to do it.

These people claimed we were idiots(and much less kind things) for purchasing a board because it supported features that enabled continued progress in visual enhancements, simply because right at that moment there were no "killer apps" that used them.

Giants is here. 3dfx is dead.
