If you want a very cheap card, that performs pretty good, check out the GeForce2 MX200 32MB. I beleive it's only about $40 and it can handle most games on the market today with ease. I personally have a GeForce2 MX400 64MB. I've played Max Payne, Quake 3, Half Life, Unreal Tournament and RTCW and they all look freakin' awesome on it. Don't be fooled into thinking you need a GeForce3 or anything, it's all just a big conspiracy!!!!!!!!!!! heh

MX200? I don't think so. The GTS-V or the Kyro II are two very solid choices. Not the MX200... The GTS-V and Kyro II are both faster than an MX400, just imagine how bad a MX200 would get its butt kicked by either board.

The GTS-V is an excellent card for the money. For $40 range get a GF1 SDR. STILL a fine card. Put one in a system yesterday with a Celeron 850 and it does 50 FPS with all the eye candy at 1024 x 768 in Unreal Tournament. PLENTY of card for most games and on a par with any MX's (little less but not much).

You are joking, right? The MX200 is crap. It can't play anything!

I think you need to refrase the beginning of your sentence, it should look more like this:

If you want a ver cheap video, that performs awfully, check out the GeForce 2 MX200. It's only $40, but can't handle any game on the market today @ a decent resolution. For 20 some dollars more, you could get a much better video card.

Don't take this seriouslty, but, the MX200?! Worst possible choice for gaming!

Unfortunately the Visiontek GTS-V is sold out, but supposedly should be getting more stock on 11/08, but then again they dont' ship to Canada, maybe one of you guys could help me out with this??? What is this Kyro thing? What chipset does it use? How come I've never heard of it (ok stupid question, but still..)? So I guess I'll go for a GTS-V or a Kyro.

edit: does the Kyro, or GTS-V/MX(2/4) for that matter, work in XP??

the Kyro is the chipset. Err. rather, the Kyro II is the chipset we're talking about...

The Kyro II performs on par with the GTS, so it would undoubtably beat out the GTS-V. But the GTS-V can be overclocked to GTS levels, and sometimes further.

Ask Teasy, he'll have the answer.

AFAIK, it does. . .

Yes WinXP support was added three driver releases ago. In the first official Kyro 1 and II WinXP driver it was ok but had a bug that made it slow, but the second release fixed this and AFAIK the second and third release are good stable WinXP drivers. Until now I've decided not to move to XP because I felt the drop in performance from Win98 would be too big for me. However I've now decided to get XP because it looks like the current Kyro 1 and II WinXP drivers are quite good and will get even better in the next driver release. I'm getting WinXP on Tuesday.

<< cool thanx >>

No Problem.

<< i guess your the local Kyro guy around here? >>

I suppose, though I prefer PowerVR guy

BTW incase you don't know PowerVR or Imagination Technologies (PowerVR technologies are a part of Imagination technologies) are the people who design the technology thats used in the Kyro chip. Its the same tech used in the Sega Dreamcast and Sega Naomi 1 and 2 arcade boards only Kyro is a more advanced generation of the same tech.

The Kyro2 or Radeon LE is better than the MX, and the 7200 is just a plain Radeon SDR isn't it? The LE is still better, once super tweaked

, maybe, but considering you said "Ask Teasy, he'll have the answer" (which would kind of give him the impression that I'm "the local Kyro guy around here") and he posted after my post I assume he's talking to me, not that I care who he's talking to of course

yeah I think the 7200 is basically a 7500 but with SDR.. it performs better than an old SDR but I think it's still less than an LE.

I'd get a Radeon LE over a GFMX any day of the week. The GF GTS-v would be nice, but if they're sold out.. oh well
