GF3 ti200 SUPER BADASS TROUBLE

Hey I just purchased a Gainward GeForce 3 Ti 200 Golden Sample powerpack card...
But for some reason at high resolutions (1024x768+) there are a lot of artifacts on
the screen. There are these brief flashes of only long horizontal black lines that occur
when I look at certain items on the screen, such as varying colors in a Quake 3 Arena
level. And these symptoms occur fiercely as I increase the resolution up to 1280 x 1024.

In fact, it gets so bad, for some reason, it crashes the system. Sometimes it's so bad that
the screen crushes into a box a quarter size of the screen into the center of the monitor
and everything begins turning into a massive jumble of broken images and lines. Then
everything freezes and the sound locks up.

This problem also occurs immediately when I enable FSAA. I've also had problems
even getting into the menu of Return to Castle Wolfeinstein. Immediately the fluctuating
and the crashes occur in the menu.

Just to let you know, Windows desktop runs perfectly. BTW, when these problems occurred, I formatted
and installed Windows XP (previously I had win2k). Surprisingly, these problems were SLIGHTLY alleviated, meaning
that the crashes occurred later and less frequently. Nevertheless, the problem is still there.

I have tried many drivers, including the ones supplied to me by Gainward. I've tried the
22.80s, the 21.83s, and several others. NONE of them vary in terms of symptoms.

I am wondering if my card is bad or something. Has anyone had the same problems?
I havn't overclocked the card or anything; it's doing this completely out of the box fresh and new.

THANKS!

I'm running an IWILL KK 266 Athlon (VIA chipset) 1.33 Ghz, 512 mb RAM
2 Western Digital HDs. SB Live! soundcard. In the Award Modular bios,
I also set everything in my bios to a conservative setting, meaning ram speed
and cas delays to default.

These are symptoms of memory overclocking. Since yours not overclocked, I can only assume memory is bad. Try it on other system, if you getting the same artifacts, RMA time

All right, after I installed the 23.10 drivers that just came out.......my vcard has gone relatively more stable...
I'm not sure why... But nothing crashes anymore, not even in FSAA. BUT, i'm still getting these horizontal
black line disturbances. I've checked for nearby possibly interferences, but nothing yet.... I'm wondering
if anyone has a similar problem....

sounds like a refresh rate problem with your monitor, are you using the default windows monitor drivers?

Your problem shouldn't be this hard to fix. I would guestimate that you have a bad card. Why not try to replace it? It would likely be easier than pulling your hair out, reformatting, trying different drivers every day, etc...

Did you check the AGP Aperture Size setting in your BIOS? I have an Iwill KK266 board as well and a Visiontek Ti200 and I couldn't even boot to the Windows desktop until I changed the aperture size (it was at 4 from when I had my previous Voodoo5 card). When I upped it to 128, everything was fine (actually, I think 64 or higher fixed the problem, but I leave it at 128 now). Not sure if this is your problem, but worth checking out.

Forgot to mention...I also had problems with blurriness and screen shake. Changed the refresh rate from Optimal to 85 Hz and it fixed the problem.
