I know the GF is a little bit more than the Radeon, but is it worth it to spring for the extra 40-50 bucks?

it depends realy, you should find benchmarks for what you plan to use it for and deside which would be a beter value for you. or tell us what you plan to use a new card for, that will help.

Gaming, mostly. I want to be able to Play Battlefield at a high framerate and with lots of bots. (64) I have a pretty hefty system, but couldn't the 9000 Pro handle it?

As far as I know, the GF Ti 4200 hammers the Radeon 9000 in all areas. The Ti4200 also hammers the Radeon 9500 non pro....
So your decision should be easy.

If you can get a 4x agp TI4200 for cheaper, go for it. There is almost no differance between the 8x and the 4x ti4200s besides slightly better memroy on the 8x one. agp 8x itself does not provide hardly any improvement with the ti4200. If you get the ti4200 you get the nice driver support from nVidia.

The Ti4200 is the better card overall for gaming but the 9000 Pro will eat it alive when you enable anisotropic filtering.

In terms of value per $ spent, I'd vote for the 9000Pro. However, if u want the BETTER card then go for the Ti4200. IMHO, the 9000Pro does beat the Ti4200 in some areas (as mentioned, anisotropic filtering). Just downloaded the latest drivers for 9000Pro and they work awesome, bumped up my 3DMark2001 SE quite a bit. No OC-ing even!

Save up for something that'll really make a difference to your system, new mobo or processor and then dream about a 9800

I've already got everything else for my new system, except the video card...what is the best place to get them? (either the 4200 or the 9000)

Instead of the 9000, try to get 9100 or even the 8500 LE which is faster than the 9000.

How much more would a 9500 Pro cost. It's probably the best bang for the buck (when you consider longivity, this card will last you longer than the Ti4200).

Anyways, newegg is good place to get your stuff.

I'd get the 8500 or 9100 before I get the 9000 and yes Ti4200 does perform better than those two card and if the price is not that much more than it's probably wiser to get this card.

I don't know, i have heard the ti4200 is better than the radion 9000pro. However, i got my radion 9000pro 128mb ddr for 50 bucks after rebat from frys and when playing counter strike, or americas army, mine looks better than my friends. ANd he has a similarly configured system with a geforce ti420064mb. I can esily get 70+ fps on both games and my friend spent quite a bit more than $50 bucks on his graphics card.

If the Radeon 9100 came clocked at 275/275 and overclocked to 300/300, it would be in the same league as the Ti4200. Unfortunately almost all the 9100 128MB out there come clocked much slower, and overclock poorly. If you don't use anisotropic filtering the 4200 will still be faster than the best 9100. I have a GF4 Ti4200 @ 300/662 and a retail Radeon 8500 128MB @ 310/303. The Geforce is faster in all games at 1600 x 1200 no FSAA and no anistropic filtering.
