Gf4mx440 is just slightly slower than the geforce 3 ti200 and it is less expensive too.
oh, and I just wanted opinions about the gaming performance between these two cards. don't tell me to buy a radeon 8500 ...cos i'm not in america and they are very expensive here. and a ti4200 is too long for me to wait since I need a graphics card right now.

Will vertex shader or pixel shader for DirectX 8 support be such a big deal ? Only a tiny few new games in the future will use these and by that time the geforce 3 ti200 will be very much out of date anyway.

How much performance hit will the 440 get for those new games ? I'm assuming it would still be quite good (not talking full detail 1600x1024 here)

so for the gamer that only plays in 1024x768 ...will the gf4 mx440 be a good card ? especially when a Gainward gf4 mx440 golden sample can be overclocked to be faster than the ti 200 and when converted to US currency will cost me about US$60 less than a ti 200
Also won't future drivers make the gf4 mx faster than the gf3 ti 200 ?

The GF3 is a superior card in both speed and feature support (DX8.1).

GF3's can be had as cheap as $120 right now w/ a rebate.

I think the only reason to get a GF4 right now is for the dual monitor stuff, but I could be mistaken.

My opinion - buy the GF3. Its about the same price and will last you longer and perform better than the GF4MX.

Personally I'd prefer a GF3 Ti200 over a GF4 MX440.

I won't go into along winded explanation because there have been about 50 topics asking this same question in the last few days so there is little need to repeat what I've already written a dozen times already.

I'd also go with the Geforce 3. I don't see any reason to buy a GF4mx, because the lack features basically leaves it as a really fast Geforce 2.

its as if you guys just answer my topic and not read the post i had many more questions in there.

if they were the same price, of course i would pick the gf3 ti200 but I'm not in US and theres a US$60 price difference.

I was just asking if the gf4mx440 will run those new games well at 1024x768 even though it has no support for them.
everyone keeps telling me lack of features ...but i want to understand will those features be needed ? or are those features on the gf3 ti200 outdated anyway by the time those new games come out and wont be that much useful.

Actually, if you look at the benchmarks, the GeForce4 MX performs very poorly. It's definitely worth the approx. US$60 extra for the GeForce3 Ti200.

I don't know where you are, but the GF4 MX 440 is supposedly going to cost more than the GF3 ti200 does now.
I have seen the GF3 ti200 for around $135 US now whereas the GF4 MX 440 is supposedly $150 US.

have you people taken it in that he is not in America so prices are different (here in the UK, the cheapest GeForce 3 Ti200 incl. shipping is £140, which is roughly $200!!!)

Yes the GF3-ti200 is worth the 60.00 more. The newer games coming out DOOM and others will definitely use the extra features, the GF4-MX's are just GF2's with the new memory controllers. So they run a very few of the current games maybe slightly faster than a GF3, but only a very few. For the most part the GF3 totally beats the GF4 on everything. I am not sure what game benchmark you saw that had the GF4 matching or beating a GF3?

<< I am not sure what game benchmark you saw that had the GF4 matching or beating a GF3? >>

it was the review of Gainward gf4 mx440 with Golden Sample running in enhanced mode.

anyways, I'm from NZ, and the cheapest here are

Leadtek geforce3 ti200 $440 NZD = $184 USD
Gainward geforce4 mx440 $280 NZD = $117 USD
Gainward geforce4 mx440 with golden sample $300 NZD = $126 USD
MSI geforce4 mx440 $280 NZD = $117 USD

so it was down to either a Leadtek geforce3 ti200 or the Gainward geforce4 mx440 with golden sample.

I've used both in my system and ran benchmarks. Without a single doubt the Ti200 kicks its ass Trust me, the MX440 is more than just a 'little slower.'

The answers shown here about nature of GF4MX are completely ignorant. Look at:
http://www.digit-life.com/articles/gf4mx/index.html
for comprehensive benchmarks and an explanation of what a GF4MX actually is. Basically it ditches the most useless feature of the GF3 line, the programmable shading, and trims down the pipelines. The memory controller and fsaa are GF4 type. Over two years from the Geforce, we still have slow takeup of hardware transform and lighting so don't shed tears over a losing a feature that will sit predominantly unused for the lifetime of the card. With Quincunx on performance is much the same as the Ti200 and it's supposed to look sharper.
The GF4MX blows away Geforce2 Ti, and Radeon 7500 and is slap bang in that price range he's quoting. The MSI has a very nice game bundle too that could lower the effective price of the card if you want the games.
If he's not prepared to overclock a Ti200 I'd say the GF4MX was a good buy, but happily the Ti200 can OC often to Ti500 speeds so he has to take a hard look at what performance he wants (more than features in my opinion).
