ghost image ? how it work?

I installed xp pro over an install of xp home all was well until I realized I did not have a powerdvd decoder So I put in the recovery cd which was ghost image something now I got xp home back my questions are What does that cd do Where did xp pro go Is my system F';4ed up now ? Thanks I A NEWBIE

An image is basically a snapshot of the drive. When you load an image back onto the drive, you are putting it back exactly the way it was when the image was made. The images on recovery CD's are basically the way the computer was shipped from the factory.

The CD would contain the Ghost program and an image (a snapshot of the way your computer was factory configured). When you ran the restore image it would write the image over whatever you had in your C: partition. Unless you ran ghost and saved an image of your C: partition to D: or E: you have lost what you did with XP pro. If you run ghost you can save an image of XP home set up the way you like it to a back partition of your drive, then install XP pro over it and save an image of that as well. Then you can switch back and forth between the two as your mood suits you. If you had saved things you wanted to keep to the C: partition, sorry. They're gone.
