Many years ago I was doing a missing persons search with the sheriff's dept. and one of my areas was a cemetery, of course it was also at night and pouring rain.

About a half an hour into my search I passed an area and an entire flock of pigeons took off and scared the shit out of me. I guess they were hunkered down near some headstones and had some shelter from the rain.

I may have shrieked like a little girl, I don't remember. I do remember that it was very creepy and scared the shit out of me.

Aliens are something that I'm skeptical of, not to say it isn't possible that they don't exist, but why would an advanced race of beings come to a backwater planet like this? I think if anything they fall in the category of beings from a different realm. BTW, its possible that humans have been to another realm as the Philadelphia experiment would be something I'd categorize as plausible.

Interstellar flight is why I'm skeptical of Aliens, I just don't think its possible to exceed the speed of light.

Heh, you should meet some of the Chinese graduate students I know. They claim that they are atheists, yet believe deeply in astrology.

Astrology doesn't include gods, as far as I know anyway, so there's no conflict. A person can believe in anything (no matter how ridiculous) and for whatever reason (no matter how ridiculous) and they're still atheist as long as they don't believe in gods.

Okay, now if ghosts are just the spirits of dead people then everything we know about people should apply to ghosts with one exception. You can't punch a ghost in the face. Therefore there would be absolutely no consequence to a ghost being super annoying. Ipso facto, if ghosts existed they would be everywhere, bothering us constantly. Think of old people in the checkout line who tell you all their health problems only ghosts really would have nothing better to do than bother us 24/7. Since this doesn't happen - no ghosts.

I've always loved paranormal/ghost stories ever since as a kid, but I've never experienced out of norm all my life. And I'm incredibly skeptical to have my mind play tricks on me.

Only about two years ago, I bought an ouija board for fun. What better way to incite an paranormal experience than to provoke it yourself?

My friends Nick, Mark and I went to landlord's unfinished attic to play the board . We are not youngsters, all mid/late twenties.

I did some research online and a veteran member of a tech forum who liked this crap told me about the rituals, having the right mindset, etc.

So, secluded in the attic, 3 of us lit few candles, chanted some summoning words, and put our hands on the knob.

It didn't spell shit. It spelled total nonsense... because it's our own fucking fingers using them.

Then I got fed up with the disappointment (what else was gonna happen, really?). I stood up in the darkness and yelled any provocation I could think of. I said I would sell my soul for you to simply show up, put blood on my family and future children, etc.. just show me SOMETHING!

Nothing happened of course. And to this day, nothing strange has happened. Maybe my future kid will die.. maybe.

Until then, this shit doesn't exist.

I've read few paranormal threads in this forum tonight out of boredom. Those with personal accounts, please some those cheeky ghosts to me. I'd love to meet them. I live in downtown NY.

This is pretty much my stance. I also think it's a mistake solely attributing ghosts to dead people. It could could be some kind of dimensional crossover, or something else we don't know about yet. I'll just sit here being quietly skeptical, and see what turns up. Blindly saying they don't exist is anti-science, and as bad as the theist's claims...

Floors wouldn't necessarily be holding them up. That just might be the path they're taking, but could just as easily go up or down through the floors. I seem to remember ghost stories where they (dis)appeared through floors.

If ghosts exists they would break a few rules of physics we have. For you to see them would mean there were photons bouncing off them, which couldn't happen if they had no mass. For you to hear them, they would have to impart energy into world, since they don't eat of produce energy in any known way it wouldn't have an energy balance.

People have been weighed before and after death and no mass change was noted so the soul has no mass. For ghosts to have thought processes independent of the bio-chem reactions in the brain would mean that there was center for thought process other than the brain. Since ghosts tend to have memories from their life, that would mean that the contents of the brain were uploaded somewhere.

Just thinking past the first level into how ghosts might exists would show that ghosts aren't compatible with our current understanding of the world. It would take some pretty extra-ordinary proof to confirm their existence. Think of all those who died and would be more than willing to share their after-death experience if they could. Why is that only the ones that want to hang around old buildings and such come through?

Michio Kaku said scientists have actually war gamed an alien encounter. He brought up a good point that if aliens were coming to our planet, it wouldn't be for resources because there's millions uninhabited planets that they could have gone to. If they're coming to Earth, its probably not for a peaceful cause.

Also remember on one of those ghost shows on the Discovery Channel there was a haunting where the house was renovated and only half the ghost was poking out of the floor because it was moving on the old floor plan.

The Philadelphia Experiment had nothing to do with the paranormal. Just a bunch of unsubstantiated rumors and vivid imaginations.
