Rumors are flying that now that the Giants clinched a playoff spot and cannot improve their position with a win, they will be resting some key players, including Plaxico Burress, Brandon Jacobs, Gibril Wilson, Antonio Pierce, etc. These guys are all somewhat banged up.

I, as a Giants fan support them playing backups. It's not the Giants fault that the Pats are undefeated, and it's not their job to prevent it. Their job is to go as far as possible into the playoffs. If that means that Moss breaks Rice's record, so be it. If it means Brady breaks Peyton's record, so be it. If it means the Pats go undefeated, so be it.

Pats would beat the Giants either way...but I'd like to see the Giants play their key players and give everyone watching as good as a game the Giants can play (hahahh) and I believe that they will do just that. However the Patriots will eventually lose to the Colts in the playoffs as I've been saying for a while now.

Why would the Giants risk getting their key guys hurt in a meaningless game? I think they would be letting down Giants fans if that actually happened.

I believe basically letting your team get blown out at a sold out home game is letting down your fans. The Colts are a good example of a team that is very disciplined yet Peyton & others played majority of the game to romp the Texans, it's actually a bit risky to rest your key players now and kind of take their mentality away from the game of football. They should be in prime mode going into the playoffs, resting for a while and just practicing is never as good as playing in a real game...and let's face it - the Giants need ALL the real game "practice" they can get going into the playoffs and playing the Patriots is as good as a learning experience as you are going to get.

The Colts won't even make it to the AFC Championship game.

If the Giants are smart, they'll rest their starters for the playoffs the following week. No need for injuries or tiring out one's starters (I believe their playoff game will be on Saturday, one less day of rest) trying to slug it out with the Pats.

The Pats on the other hand have a bye week to rest/prepare, need the practice as they haven't been playing sharp and want to set all sorts of records.

If the weather isn't nasty, the score will be nasty.

I want to see a Titans vs Skins Super Bowl, although neither team has clinched a playoff berth

To The Presence, it is sad that if your team does not sit down key players for ANY game it will be a let down to the fans. I pity you at that. As a fan, I want my team to compete hard every single game and make it a blowout. If it were you, the Pats would sit their starters after first half for most of their games. There will be no records, no pride, no fun. Good thing there arent many fans like you. If I were a Giant fan, I would want them to beat the patriots (or any other team) no matterwhat the playoff consequences are.

Of course I want the Giants to beat the Pats, but more than that, I want them to go as deep into the postseason as possible. They have banged up playmakers that can hurt themselves and affect their playoff run. I'd rather rest them, let the Pats win this meaningless game and show up and make some noise in the playoffs.

You don't think that this is a somewhat myopic view?

In the grand scheme of things, a hard fought victory this weekend means zero. No one is saying that the Giants should go out and roll over, but there is no reason to start/play players that have been getting abused all year just for pride. And could you imagine the backlash if Jacobs or Umenyoria were to be lost for the playoffs? The NY media would run Coughlin out of town (moreso).

Most reasonable Giants fans understand this.

The Giants would lose either way, as Josh said. Who gives a crap who they start? Worthless team that'd get spanked easily by the Pats.

The Eagles came *this* close to beating the Pats. The Giants beat the Eagles twice this year and are clearly a superior team. Baltimore almost beat the Pats as well. Anything can happen. Sure, the Pats are obviously a better team. Can they be beaten by the Giants? Certainly. Unlikely, but certainly possible.

The Giants should just get ready for the playoffs. Why should they care whether or not the Patriots get the record? They need to rest and be 100% ready for the playoffs.

Not only will they make it to the championship game, but they will end the Pats season by the end of that game. The Pats will have a perfect regular season, but no Superbowl win, and not even an AFC Championship, to cap it off.

Giants are not a good team anyway - so it makes little difference. Cowboys and Pack will rule the NFC this year.

LOL, why not sit them throughout the first 8 games of the season so they are healthy for the last 8 and win it and still make the playoffs (since its the NFC).

If they are hurt, they wont be playing in a regular season game, if not what says they wont get hurt and out for the rest of life on the first play in the playoffs.

Its not Coughlins fault that Jacobs or Umenyiora get hurt. If they are not gonna help, they will be sitting out either way. Most reasonable Giants fans want to beat the Patriots and by some miracle if they were to meet again in the playoffs talk about how the spread of that game changes in Vegas (and to most reasonable Giants fans)

Lol, its one of the most rhetorical statements made by sports analysts. Real sports followers know that 2 days rest will get back to where you are after a game barring injuries.

Just because someone is not injured, resting them an extra week wont make them "better" or "100%".

You don't know football nor sports.

Any REAL SPORTS FOLLOWER knows that all injuries are different and take different amounts of time to heal.

Giving some of the Giants players an extra week of rest will allow them to be more healed and more ready for their playoff game.

Whether or not you think the Giants are going deep is completely irrelevant.
They have to give themselves the best shot they can.
It really doesn't matter if everyone thinks they aren't good enough.

Coughlin isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, so I suspect he'll beat his players up both in practice this week, and by putting in his starters versus the Pats. On the one hand, though, that can be a good thing. Maybe Eli goes down with an injury? Then they might have a passing game to go along with their running game. Ladies and gents, The Pillsbury Throwboy is in the house!
Not that any of this matters. One-And-Done is Coughlin's standard post season performance. This year won't be any different.
