I asked this on another forum and they came to no conslusion that actually helped. I pretty much only notice it on yahoo.com but that isn't the only site that it happens on. I have Google Toolbar and Norton Internet Security and those don't seem to be the problem because I have turned them both off and the problem still keeps occuring. Anyone have any idea?

Have you deleted the files in your (for Win9x/ME) Windows \ Temp directory or
(if using Win2k or XP) your
Documents and Settings \ <username> \ Local Settings \Temp

Unfortunately i didn't. Multiple times. Nothing seems to be working and the sites seem somewhat naked... Makes me feel paranoid

I have this problem as well, and can't seem to figure out how to fix it. When I go to yahoo email a lot of the gif files don't show up and same with ebay (even their main home page). I recently went into IE's options and did the "delete files" function. Do you think that affects it? I have norton antivirus and I have run spybot and ad-aware. I have windows xp pro and IE6.

Anyone have any ideas? I can't figure this out.

Thanks,
Mike

Try this.

Start--> Run--> REGEDIT

Go to File--> Export --> and save a backup of your registry somewhere in case you need to IMPORT it back.

Now find the key \HKey_Local_Mcahine\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\

Delete any folder under that heading except for MK (possibilities are HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP).

Now find the key \HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\

Delete the same things if they exist (making sure to keep MK).

Close REGEDIT, reboot, and see if it happens again.

I got it to work although I did format. Doesn't matter much my PC was going to get a format soon I just did it a little earlier.

Thanks for the suggestion. I only had MK listed under both of those. There were no other folders such as http, https, or ftp. Just MK. Anyone have any other suggestions. This is a weird problem.

Run windows updates, run adaware, virus, etc. Check out your default program for handling gifs. Try another internet browser to see if it is affected.

Thanks for the suggestions amdskip. I did all of these things. Still not working. The two sites that I know don't work are ebay and yahoo. It's very strange. I ran spybot and ad-aware as well as a virus checker. I tried using MYIE2 as a browser too and that was still getting the same problem.

Are you browsing from work? My co. blocks 2nd level pages (past the homepage) of eBay. Maybe your co. is doing something similar?

If you recently did a Windows update and installed some IE patches your security level within IE may have been changed to high from the update. Check within your tools>internet options>security and privacy to make the necessary adjustments.

Whenever that happens to me, I fix it by deleting all the Internet Temp files. It is a known bug in Windows that when that pot gets full, GIFs can not be saved as such.

I checked my security settings and they are still set to medium. I tried lowering them to low and that didn't fix the problem.

I also just tried to delete the internet temp files and that didn't fix the problem either.

Another thing I tried was resetting internet explorer to its default settings, but that didn't fix the problem. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Anyone, have any other ideas?

check your hosts file. Does it have those sites (pics.ebaystatic.com for ebay, for example) hosted to 127.0.0.1??

I looked at the hosts file but couldn't find that ebay line. Actually, I did a control+f function to search for the word "ebay" and it didn't come up. The following came up for yahoo though.

66.98.178.19 adserver.yahoo.com
66.98.178.19 us.adserver.yahoo.com

Have any suggestions on how to fix the problem? I'm not sure what these hosts files are for, but I found them...should I reset them?
