Giga P35-DS3P - Nothing on boot

This is the second system I've built in a month with this board. 1st one is running great at 8 x 400. The new one, not even a beep. PS and fans start up for about 3 - 5 seconds, shuts off, starts again, fans for 3- 5, shut -off, etc, until I cut power. I thought there was a thread on this issue, but I only found a link to another forum which talked about it, but didn't solve it.

I don't even get a beep. And, no signal to monitor. I've contacted Gig, but too soon for a response. And ideas

Try to boot with one stick of RAM. Also try OCZ if it works with the other board. You need to enter the BIOS to manually set Vdimm and timing to specs.

I've also seen failure to post threads with some Antec PSUs. The Earthwatts line appears to be okay.

Problem appears to be resolved. Tried changing power supplies, pulled MB from case, all the typical EXCEPT I left that $2.99 Trendnet wireless card in one of the PCI slots. Hadn't given it a second thought since I hadn't even gotten to a beep yet. Happened to pull it out to try something one more time, system boots. Put system back together (including Trendnet) and NO BOOT. Ah-hah, pulled card, boot!!. Moved card to other PCI slot, boot.

Never thought that would turn out to be the problem, saved me a RMA.

BTW-installing Vista Home Premium since the upgrade version of XP-Pro has soared in price. what PITA.

You always want to strip a new board bare, and attempt to POST outside the case. If okay, then you can proceed with final assembly.

You have defective mother board did you buy it from newegg?
I had exactly samel problem 1 month ago finally i rma the mother board got new one works like charm. There is big thread in tomshardware.com about this issue.

I searched and browsed Tom's and only find one (very short) thread that was even close to this situation. What topic was it under?

Yes, both boards came from Newegg (rev 1.1). I've had a number of MBs in the past that either would not work properly with a certain slot occupied or a board that would only work in one specific slot (usually an IRQ conflict)

This was the first time I'd had a board that was flat-out silent on first boot. I got a little cocky since the first DS3P went so well and so easy; and I assembled everything before doing a test boot. I'd be more inclined to believe that the Trendnet card is not compatible than the MB is bad. System seems to be running fine with the Trendnet wireless card in the PCI2 (outside one) slot.

My only complaint with the system right now is Vista. So far, I hate it. Especially since I found out PowerDesk won't work (fully) in Vista. I've become totally dependent on the split screens of PowerDesk (i've been hooked on this utility since it was Xtree Gold)

Thanks fatmario. I was searching for P35-DS3P than tried P35-DS. Forgot that there was also a P35c-

Looking at how I got around my problem and those in that thread, I'm still betting the problem is with the Trendnet. My 2 boards would also come from a different batch since it the DS3P rather than the DS3r

I've got more testing to do, so I'll just have to see how it goes.
