My current setup consists of 3 W& 64Bit PC's along with a Verizon Fios Actiontec switch.

What do I need to setup a gigabit network?

Is there any special equipment outside of a gigabit Nic required?

What should the settings be?

Any info is appreciated.

You need a gigabit switch and ethernet cabling rated for gigabit speed. I'd use Cat6 cabling to be sure. The built-in gigabit NICs will autoconfigure with the switch.

Depends on the size of your network. If it's small you can just get a gigabit router and skip the switch. Go with Cat6 cables, they aren't that much more than 5e and will be compatible with 1000t or whatever the next go round is called.

I think my Verizon Actiontec router is a gigabit router, but will check.
Do I need to change any settings on my Nic?

I have the cables coming in soon..

So I got the Cat 6 cabling, D-Link DGS-2208 switch, Identical Nic's in both PC. 1 PC is showing me 1gbs thruput while the other is showing me 100 mbs. My printing to my networked printer is dumb slow. Any ideas?

For starters -
On the PC that is showing 100mbps, check the NIC card properties to be sure that Speed & Duplex are set to Auto. Also, try swapping Cat6 patch cables between the two PCs to see if the problem follows the cable.

For the printer, that could be related to other issues outside of the network.

Was the printer "fast" on the 10/100 network you had it on before?

Did that...still slow

It was faster, like a 2-5 second delay then it printed. On the gig network, It would take 25-35 seconds or more to print..

gscone is the network printer wired or wireless? If it's wired see if you can check the ethernet port configuration to see if it's set for autoconfiguration or some forced setting. If it's manually set to full duplex the switch will autoconfig its port for half duplex, causing a duplex mismatch. You could also check to see if the printer's IP address is conflicting with another device.

Its the switch, well more specific the ports on back. You have to move them around to make sure it all reads gig speeds on lights.

Lots of switches don't configure 1gig unless the ports are next to each other, or certain configs.

That TREDnet switch they linked to is very finicky with speeds because of that. .

I've never had that problem with a switch. If I did, I'd RMA it. That's not normal.

Ok, The Verizon Fios router is not gigabit so I'm just going to live with 100 MBS network.

Any suggestions on a quality switch?

I believe with that specific switch, if you have HW Rev 1, it will drop the entire switch to 100mbps if you have any non-gigabit capable hw on the switch.

I have that specific switch, but I haven't had any problems with it.
