Gigabye GA-8IHXP - Setup problems

Just got the board up an running but had problems when I started installing the drivers from the CD. After I installed the Intel Chipset software, my CD seemed to disappear. It shows fine during boot, but after windows starts, it's not recognized.

Other than that, the system seems to run ok...but a bit slower than I'd expected.

The rest of the config is:

P4 2.53
Radeon 9000Pro graphics card
Seagate 80 Gig (Primary IDE Master)
IBM 80 Gig (Primary IDE Slave)
Samsung 52XCD (Secondary IDE Master)
Windows XP (SP1 installed)

Search the boards, I red something somewhere about scsi cd's and other cd-roms not being recoginized, also check the gigabyte site and its support areas and also the gigabyte usenet group.

I have one, btw, I just got it but I understand the board has been revised.

Thanks for the reply and the pointers which were helpful.

For some reason I don't yet understand, the problem seems to be fixed after I uninstalled IAA.

Still pretty crappy performance, but progress.

Make sure you get ALL latest board drivers & bios from Gigabyte site.

Are you using Bios F6?

What kind of RAM are you using?

Also, you can use the @BIOS writer to get F6.

What kind of Ram do you have and if it is PC1066, are you able to run in PC1066 mode?

Err, sorry, it's included in the Gigabyte utilities that you get with the mobo. Anyways, if you prefer not to use it, here is a direct link.

Oh, I was wondering, what exactly do you mean by "slower than you expected" and "crappy performance"?


Like, the system is sluggish? Or, are we talking 3Dmark? Some other benchmark? Or...

Thanks very much...got it...

Things are a bit better but still slow...by that I mean when opening a program or a file, sometimes it just hangs for 5-10 seconds...then kicks in. I reinstalled XP yesterday (clean), but not much change.

I ran diagnostics on it, and everything benchmarked pretty much OK...except for the drives.

At this stage, I have unilstalled IAA...everytime I install it, the CD "disappears".

Probably unrealated, but the CPU fan speed is showing up a 0 RPM...but it is spinning happily, and the CPU temp is fine.

Are you using the RAID/ATA133 Controller?

Did you just get this board from newegg? I hope it's not my RMA'ed one!

I subscribed to the post. I have the same board and will try to help as much as possible.
