After a few weeks of planning out a fresh new system I finally got the last of my shipments today and started to put everything together. I ran into my first snag trying to power up for the first time.
Problem is the system won't power up..at all!
I went through hours and hours of tests and I finally fingered my Vid Card and quite possibly my Power Supply as the culprits, as to why they are acting up I have no idea.
What happens is when I push the power button on my case theres nothing more than a half second spark of life and it's accompanied by a "squeek". The squeek is from my video card, the fan power alarm I suppose. Now I can't achieve the squeek twice in a row, I have to switch off the PSU then switch it back on and then try hitting the power button again for it to give any sign of life.
Now heres the other thing, if I unplug the power cord from the vid card my system will power on slightly (cpu fan spins at normal speed) BUT the alarm on the card goes ape crap and will not shut up unless I switch off the PSU.
I've tried different plugs from the PSU with no luck, I've tried reseating the card, checking it for anything that looked odd...no luck. I'm so tierd, been at this for hours..any help or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!
SPECS:
Asus K8N-E Deluxe
1GB PQI Turbo 3200 DDR
Gigabyte GeForce 6800 GT
AMD 64 3200+
Samsung SATA HDD 120GB
*UPDATE*
I swapped my 6800 with my brother's 9800pro just to see what would happen and while this time I got no annoying alarm (most likely because these cards don't have one) I did notice a few things.
- The PSU and CPU fans both worked while the case fans and the fan on the card itself did not budge.
- There was no power going to any other device that was hooked up (DVD,CDRW,SATA Drive).
- System still does not boot up (no beep) or power up fully.
Could this be a bad PSU?
