Are you having it with your board??? I think in anandtech's review they list as getting a higher fsb..so myabe this is a hardware or user issue...

This problem is now confirmed by 3 of us. Anything above 125FSB and the board won't restart. You have to power off and cold boot and then it boots back up.

Sometimes when I cold boot, I get the same problem too.... I have to turn it on and off a few times and eventually it boots again. Quite annoying but this problem seems to be soley my problem.

WHAT i thought your gigabyte 8IRXP recomendations were about how you never had a problem?

you mean you have been recommending a buggy board to the masses?

and if my memory serves correctly you stated

<< and the 8IRXP rocks >>

Maybe this can be a sticky but i wont hold my breath

the items that need to be listed are as follows

CPU:
Voltage:
Cooler:
SL code:
Fpo/Batch:
Location:
Pack Date:
Motherboard:
FSB:
Memory:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

CPU: 1.8A @ 2.427GHZ
Voltage: 1.8 Volts
Cooler: Sunflower by AVC
SL code: SL63X
Fpo/Batch: L147B189
Location: Malaysia
Pack Date: 1-6-02
Motherboard: Gigabyte 8IRXP
FSB: 135
Memory: 2-crucial ecc unbuffered 256MB PC2100 memory is at 266 through bios i have pc2700 on the way and will update then
Here

gotta get the whole shabang

8IRXP

Here

your words:1.8 is the stableist i have ben able to get it, if it craps out on me i have a 3 year warranty anyways

and I have the 8IRXP

i dont think 1.65 is achievable stable at least on this chip .guess you dont know intel warranties, i get 3 years. and it only voids the warranty if you claim it was overclocked, most people arent that stupid. and dealing with intel all you need is the cpu and a reciept.
my 1.8 with sunflower is at 2.427GHZ @ 1.75 @ 89F

got me some kingmax 2700 on the way

and another kicker:man thats a bunch of hogwash. looks liek they didnt do any stuying at all. but whats to be expected.

glad i didnt get a junk board like the p4b266,

so many incositencies , i know id never buy a pc from them,
Here

and here:my 1.8 kicks the 1.6 outta the race.

the 1.8 is the sweet chip, the 1.6 is just slower and a little cheaper

nothing like 2.45ghz out of the box stable

compared to 2.1ghz
Here

my response is:to each his own

my recomendation: do a little homework and try to get a better driver or try "omg" a different motherboard ans see if that fixes your great board.

or live with it

and say its still a good board but not the best overclocker because it has "omg" a flaw

or how about reporting it to Gigabyte.although that might get you these results and being as your nearing the time limit? might not have the same option:Q

Well, I just got off the phone with the tech support person from Gigabyte regarding the shutdown problem when having a FSB greater than 125MHz or so. Well, he said and I quote, "We don't care about overclocking". When I asked if it might be fixed in a future BIOS, he said, "Hey, I seriously doubt it". Then I asked, if you don't care about overclocking then why do you provide all the options and advertise it as a great board for this purpose. He said, "I don't know, thats that marketing people not me, we don't care about overclocking".

I love this board except for that weird problem. When I select restart from windows in shutsdown and hangs and I have to hit the power to restart it.... then it is fine.
If I shudown from windows, the next time I boot it hangs and I have to turn it off from this state using the powersupply switch, then it boots fine.

Is that annoying or what?!? Don't have to do any of this at normal bus speeds.

I am about to send this thing back and maybe take the restocking fee and get a P4S333 or P4B266. Both of which don't seem to have these problems and overclock well, maybe even better since I need about 1.75V to get to 2.4 stable with my 1.8a. They don't have the USB2.0, RAID, or onboard LAN but they are cheaper.

Any advice, rude remarks, flames are welcome.... ok, maybe I would settle for just advice. I purchased from MWave, I consider this board defective but will they and will they credit me the full amount if I buy a different board off of them? I still have a few weeks to decide based on their 30 day return policy.

still I think I would try and speak to their customer support and explain it because everybody has a bad day or a bad week

hope this helps

Read my thread on here on Gigabyte and their support of overclocking (called them today). Don't hold your breath on a BIOS update.

I am curious, since you are implicitly comparing this to other boards you have used, what are they? What other 478 motherboards have you used?

I've got a similar problem with an Abit BD7 (845D). I wonder if it is an chipset problem.

System:
Asus BD7 Motherboard
1.8a Northwood @ 2.2Ghz (122 FSB)
Maxtor 40Gb UDMA133 HD
256Mb Crucial DDR
Leadtek Ti200 (230/500)

<< staying away form ASUS dont trust there voltage listings and they kill chips >>

Might as well stay away from guns too. They kill people. Oh.. and cars too, they kill people. Oh, wait, it is PEOPLE that kill not the board or gun or car.

Sorry.... couldn't resist.

All of this talk of the issues with the motherboards killing chips or having bugs are alittle premature and purely speculative. Within the next 2 weeks, the sure number I see getting ready to build a p4 northwood system will greatly increase and thus if there are true issues there will be plenty of evidence. Lets wait to pass judgement then.

These boards like the infamous ecs sis chipset board will become popular fast and may dominant the forum with ppl having prolems cause ppl have problems...Do not judge a board by the number of threads alone.

ASUS boards kill chips eh?

If you would like to pass me some cases, links and proof, I will be happy to pass these on to the people I know at ASUS.

Provided you can substantiate your claims.

Do you know anyone at Gigabyte?!? Their tech support person was so rude. I bet they would fix this issue in a BIOS if the were dinged in a review on some popular websites because of their lack of support to fix the problem. Look here.

Oh, I think strawberrymom is talking about Thugsrook, his CPU died in 5 days at I think 1.6V in an Asus P4S333. I don't think that makes ASUS a chip killer but it is one of the first chip killings I have heard of first hand (well, maybe second hand. )

I too am intrested in substantiated claims on asus as ive never had a problem with their products.

maybe i am just lucky?

but I do know that they answered all my questions with very helpful answers when I built my first two computers 4 years ago and all i have to do is pick up a phone and get answers about future product support or info on my products.

that is more than some companies and their lower standards are willing to do.

so please i am always looking to read anything of value about companies, products, innovations,
problems,etc ...

but please provide links as this greatly helps me to see your point.

thanks
