gigabyte 8KNXP and using all 6 memory slots

I can't get all six memory chips to be recognized when I use 6 sticks all of which work work by themselves and in combination with any of the others. I'v e got a P4 1.6 400 fsb processor and am trying to use 2 sticks of 512 pny pc2100 ddr and 4 sticks of 256 pny pc2100 ddr. Any suggestions?

Page 16 of the manual has some info about what will & won't fly on the 8KNXP. In the event you don't have the manual anymore: the info

So let's say your four 256's are single-sided. Put them in slots 2,3,5 and 6. Put your 512's, which are presumably double-sided, in slots 1 & 4, and see if it likes that ok. If the 256's are double-sided, then I'd say sell 'em off in For Sale & Trade and get yourself some 512's, or else stick with four modules.

thanks for the reply. i have the 512's in 1 & 4 and the 256's in 2,3,5,6 and yes the 256's are single sided

Huh Then I don't know what to think. At least you could sell the 256's and not suffer too badly in the meantime, with 1GB left until you can get a couple 512's.

I got all the memory to work together in single channel mode by putting the 4 256's in 1,2,4 &5 and the 512's in 3 and 6. Even bettter, I found a 256 stick at Staples that matched three of the four so I cna run 4 256's and 2 512's in dual channel.
