I'm staying away from Gigabyte! I can't believe they would release this board with the BIOS in this condition. Also, has anyone ever read through their web site? Man they need to hire a quality translator who can translate and write proper english grammer. Not very professional if you ask me.

Hey Shiva112, I was having problems on a cold boot, where my monitor would not come on. I would hit the reset button on my case, then it would come on. But, my memory settings would go back to autodetect and speed ddr333. I took this mobo out because of my problem and plugged in the Abit SR7-8X mobo with the beta bios. I have not had any problems ever since. I am debating on taking the Gigabyte mobo back instead of waiting for the voltage settings showing up in the bios.

Other thing I recall, when I had the original F2 bios, I did not have any problems with this mobo. Are you running the F3 bios? If so, try going back to F2 bios.

And i plan to add a gigabyte radeon 8500Pro, will this combination---( gigabyte 8SG667 + DDR400 + gigabyte radeon 8500Pro ) a stable one? Anyone face any problem with this combination?

I'm not having those problems...mine boots fine...its just not stable while running 3d games. It will either freeze or reboot now and then. I'm using the BIOS that it shipped with (F3) I believe...I don't know if there was an F2 bios at any point. I'm not going to give up on this motherboard yet...I went through hell and back with my old motherboard but finally got stability after some time. Once it came, it was rock solid. I think it will be worth the wait.

I'm on the verge of getting this mobo... is anybody here getting the thing to run normally? I understand there's no voltage adjustment as of yet but what's the max people are hitting? Prolly go w/ 2.53 CPU, Corsair DDR400, 4:5 ratio and 150 FSB for 2.85 / DDR400. What are my chances? Is this realistic w/stock cooling? If not I'll get a 2.4B to run at 2.7. Thanks.

Man...I LOVE this board. Those are the exact components I have and I'm running at 2.83. Rock solid! Thing is I don't have a temp on it so I don't know how hot it's geting. Hope they fix that with a new bios soon.

phsf98,

I run a Radeon 8500 LE 128 MB (clocked to 310/300) with this board and 512 MB stick of Corsair 3200 CAS2 and a P4 2.53 clocked to nearly 2.7 Ghz. I could faster with the processor, but I am traveling a bunch and have not been able to properly overclock my processor. I am still using the standard thermal pad that comes on the retail heatsink for the Intel. Also, I am not using a power supply with a separate 12V plug. It works fine, but I think it limits my overclocking potential. Overall though, it has been very stable and my benchmarks in UT2003 have me near the top of the pack. Happy camper.

thanks for the advise from everybody,
I will be getting this board tomorrow, with Intel P42.4B, gigabyte radeon 8500LE and 256MB kingston DDR333.
Since the DDR400 hasn't matual yet, i think its better for me to stick with DDR333 first.
Is there any side effect if overclock the radeon 8500LE to a higher clock speed? Will this shorten the lifespan of this card?
What is the highest and most stable oc speed that the radeon 8500LE can work with?

phsf98,

You should be able to easily clock your LE back to retail speeds (275/275) if its a manufactured by ATI model. The core is the same as the full blown version and the memory is retail memory on many of the boards. I have been lucky with mine getting over 300, but you should be able to get the card to 275/275. If you can get that speed, then there will be no adverse effects because it really the same chip as the retail that gets clocked at that speed anyway.

anyone figured out what that Top Performance setting is? I turned it off and it seemed to help with stopping my video card crashing.

Shiva not sure what your problem is...I run win2000 sp3 and never installed that agp driver from gigabyte cd. The only time bf1942 rebooted after twenty minutes was when my memory and cpu were both overclocked. This board is very stable. I get my ddr 400 cas 2 corsair 512MB today from newegg so I'll see how stable it is with that....and then I"ll overclock and pray for stability.

Mrbass,

I have that Corsair mem and it's very stable. I have run it for extended periods at 408 Mhz... Not a single lock up or weird error. I played UT2003 for 5 hours straight at that speed. It absolutely flew. I really want more BIOS features though. I think that people do need to know that this is one of the most stripped down BIOS that I have ever seen.

Good Afternoon all..

I'd just like to point you all to a thread I was browsing.

http://www.asusboards.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25077

From the looks of it, the 8SG667 WILL NOT have voltage tweaks & hardware monitoring.

Apparently, the board lacks the IC to monitor the hardware and tweak the voltage (The board has the ITE 8700 SuperIO, it needs the ITE 8705 SuperIO for voltage tweaks/monitoring)

One user e-mailed Gigabyte, and they responded that indeed there was a Rev 2.0 of the board coming and IT HAS THE 8705. But, they had no idea on the release date..

Oh, well.. I've waited this long...

You just made my day, Elvis! Rock! Are you using stock thermal pad or did you scrape and paste? I think I'll start a thread in CPU debating the merits of paste... I don't know if it's worth it, I don't know if I'm too good at applying that stuff ;-)

I run a Radeon 8500 LE 128 MB (clocked to 310/300)
Bill, I just ordered same thing (retail box ATI). I'm an ATI newb, but I read somewhere that u can o/c it by flashing the BIOS to make it run 300/300... is that what you're doing?

...this board sounds like what I've been looking for..wish newegg had it in.
11cb just got more... but I see your point, they're no Newegg.

Arghh. I called them earlier (before I posted) and they said they had them. Then I called back, when I was ready to order, and they told me they didn't have them. I don't think they ever got them in today...

I guess I should be thankful, now we're forced to wait for the Rev 2.0...
(per Skud's linky above)
Although I would totally buy this now. It's just the best thing going, and who knows if the Rev 2.0 will be vaporware. That will be cool when/if it does come out.

ok well I'm running bunch of video encoding benchmarks with cce. So far 2.53Ghz overclocked to 2.85Ghz with 400Mhz DDR Corsair is not stable. I thought it might be the memory...but now I'm thinking maybe it's the cpu with the retail hsf. Has anyone got this thing stable (run strenous tests). I running it now with ddr 400Mhz and 2.53Ghz and yes it's stable as a rock...but it's insanely faster overclocked...just insanely faster. So raising fsb to 150 isn't stable is 148 or 145 stable for others?

Yes Shiva I turned that top performance on and it crashes sooner when it's oc'ed.

Anybody notice how 11cb.com consistently jacks up the price on this board? About a week and a half ago it had fallen to 99.00 I believe. Then for a while it stayed at 106.00. Now, this morning they increased it to 108.00. Perhaps they just got some more in stock and decided to make more of a profit. Can anybody else confirm their availability at 11cb.com ?

They sure did move up the price. Yesterday it was cheaper than hardware pro.
Think I'm gonna call newegg today and ask when they expect to carry them.

EDIT just called newegg...guy called the purchasing dept and NO ETA

Make sure to take off that Top Performance setting...I dunno what it does, but its just bad. Locks my machine.

Interestingly enough, after installing an update to DirectX 8.1 that came with UT2003, my video related crashes have stopped! I'm not OCing right now but I'll try it again tonight and see if it helps.

make sure to try essencompu for getting this board. I ordered from there for $110.
