Gigabyte 980 Ti G1 Gaming... disappointed

So I just received my G1 980 Ti and obviously checked ASIC quality then tried my hand at reaching a decent overclock.

The ASIC quality is very low, especially for a "binned" chip at 66%.

So far the only stable OC I could run Unigine Valley on Ultra @ 1080p.
Here are the results: http://gyazo.com/38a24f6a1f76a9c8382edb9eded9d5dc

Why is it reading 4gb of vram?

Also while I was running the test it showed the gpu was running at 1644 MHz constant but thats impossible because I only added 100 to the clock.

Here is a SS of afterburner: http://gyazo.com/b6c41de7a8e690a53c59a0ecd8c89db3

I am thinking about returning it and trying again for a better bin.

lol. You get what you get. That's the 'Silicon Lottery'. If you return it, don't expect to get another GTX 980 TI for a good bit because they're pretty much sold out everywhere. Those programs aren't reporting it correctly. Use GPU-Z to see the true specs of the card.

Which drivers are you running?

Ignore the clockspeeds shown in Valley, use Afterburner OSD to watch clocks. ASIC quality means very little with regards to overclockability, despite what GPU-Z says.

Yeah sorry I saw that in the Afterburner screenshots after I posted... What happens if you increase beyond 100MHz overclock? How high is the card boosting in games?

The card just seems unstable with even the slightest overclock beyond the factory oc.

With those Afterburner settings, I actually just crashed in GTA 5 (although it took like 30 mins).

What temps you seeing?
(BTW, shouldn't this thread be in the 'nvidia' section?)

The temps are extremely good. Even during the Unigine benchmark the fans didn't immediately start, so the card was under 60c.

I got 4070 in valley on a reference ti. Of course this was overclocked but only with sliders, no voltage. I don't remember my heaven score.

I use msi afterburner when testing for my GPU clocks. Valley always has the boost clock higher.

Is that the stock speed it boosts to or overclocked? If the latter, what does it do at stock?
Looks like OC'd by 100mhz. My Titan X will boost up to 200 over whatever OC I put on it. So if I have it set at 1200 mhz OC, it will boost to 1400 as long as the temps are fine.

It is overclocked using the built in "OC mode" which is very minimal.

At stock this is what it runs at: http://gyazo.com/0027a2b2fce4abfb96716326d7e9d8aa

Unless I am doing something majorly wrong while overclocking and ASIC quality doesn't mean anything, I think I just got a lemon.
I haven't tried overclocking it yet, by my G1 980 Ti does 1367 MHz (starts at 1380, drops at like 65C) straight out of the box; ASIC score 77.3%. Personally, I've found higher ASIC scores on Maxwell/900 series to correlate with higher stock boost speeds, but not by too much really. Not sure about overclocking, but 1328 MHz at stock isn't bad for this chip at all.

Same here on my ti. But his card is clocked higher from the factory, so this is probably why he doesn't have as much room to play with.

Op, if you return it you might get a better overclocker but I doubt real world performance will be seen. However, sometimes peace of mind can be more important

I mean yeah if it's factory OC you don't have much headroom. 400 mhz is about the max overclock you can do with air cooling. Yours sounds like it's already OC'd 300mhz.

Guys, how are thermals and noise in closed case? I am a bit worried after that german roundup - card seems to be real annoying on default profile.

Thermals and noise are subjective. But on a reference card noise is very adequate, the temps are around 83-84 gaming. You have to decide is that's too hot. For me, 90 and above is where I draw the line. Now you can reduce those temps but on reference cooler it does get loud.

Reference is pretty much known quantity, but i wonder how Gigabyte card is performing, it sounded annoying in that roundup.

Gigabyte does not bin chips, keep thinking that OP. And asics does not mean much.
