Gigabyte does not bin chips, keep thinking that OP. And asics does not mean much.

This and the OP seems to think a certain OC is 'guaranteed'. This is puzzling. The product works if operating at stock frequencies. Nothing is guaranteed over that, sorry.

Middling ASIC score usually means the absolute top end OC with a ton of voltage is pretty high. High ASIC score usually means it overclocks well on stock volts but the absolute top end max volt overclock is going to be a little lower. With nVidia cards now you have to flash the bios to get more voltage so you pretty much want a higher score.

Yeah I don't think they do much more than ensure that the cards work fine with the factory overclock, which is fairly modest anyway. I got similar performance to the G1 model from both of my 970 Windforce 3X OC cards when overclocked.

GPU Gauntlet sorting...

With GPU Gauntlet™ Sorting, the Gigabyte SOC graphics card guarantees the higher overclocking capability in terms of excellent power switching.

You are the consumer, if you aren't happy, then return it for something else.

$680 is alot of money and you shouldn't settle till your satisfied.

How is that card boosting to over 1500 mhz when gpu-z only shows an oc of 1310/1399?

That's just the way Nvidia's GPU boost technology works. As long as the temperatures are nice and cool, these cards will boost way above what GPU-Z says.

I did manage to get it to boost to 1480mhz and stable with 65-70c temps. The card even though the low asic quality performed nicely.

Unfortunately I determined for my needs it was a bit overkill. I really only play 2 games, GTA 5 and CS:GO. GTA 5 didn't hit the fps I wanted with ultra everything (150+) and my 780 classy can run it just fine (cs:go can be run on a laptop lol). I ended up returning the card and will wait for pascal for a true 100% performance increase over my 780 classy (with a 77% asic).

A gtx980ti is 2x faster than a gtx780. If you were not getting 100% better fps, your cpu must be weak.

What cpu do you have? What resolution are you running at?

I kinda felt like it was the CPU but didn't do any further research or testing.

I have a 4770k.

I tried 2 resolutions, 1080p and DSR @ 4k.

What is the max overclock you get out of the card?

I highly doubt asic quality has really that big impact into the max overall potential of the card.

It is like cpu silicon lottery, even if you got a known cpu batch that overclocks really well, there is a chance you would also get a dud.

Isn't this card already heavily overclocked from the factory? A card that's already this pimped out isn't going to have a lot of headroom for more.

I mean it's smoking the Titan X out of the box :

And then 10% more when overclocked :

you could try talking to the vendor that sold it to you; maybe they will take pity on you, maybe they will charge you a restocking fee .. i'm sure they would be able to sell it off to someone else, not many people know what ASIC is.
