So what's people's opinion on bearlake? I saw a review that showed that it looks good performance wise but it's only a tiny improvement. Is it worth spending more to get this versus an older chipset?

The latest spin of the Silicon improved performance and overclocking, consider it be a P965+ at this point with current processors. However, the chipset really shines with the upcoming 1333 FSB CPUs. I still think X38 (975X replacement) will be the most interesting Intel chipset this year.

The boards might be on sale on May 9th in some areas from what we understand. Intel has a performance information embargo until May 21st with the official launch on June 4th. Crazy right? If the boards go on sale next week, expect to see reviews shortly. We had six retail samples arrive recently, had engineering samples for weeks and the boards have progressed extremely well. In the meantime, you can find some early results above but also realize the boards behave differently with the 1333 CPUs.

Thank you very much for the info on the information on the 1333 CPUs Gary, as this is my main concern. E6600 will hold me over and get handed down to the lady when the 1333 CPUs appear

Do you guys think its worth holding off on an upgrade to wait for these? I'm really looking to do SLI with two 8800GTS

So Gary .. How do you think this board compares to the Gigabyte GA-N680-DQ6 board? Both do 1333 so they can'tbe too much different.. (well.. Nvidia vs Intel).. Can you comment on your opinion between the 2 of them?

Thanks..

With this new chipset will desktop and mobile motherboards provide more than 8GB of RAM at faster memory speeds? Only a few desktop motherboards support this much RAM now and only with restrictions on memory speeds. It seems completely foolish to be using 64bit processors when motherboards limit us to 3.5GB.

Just by the looks of it, I get the impression of burning hot chipset. Is Intel following NV's road for performance 'improvement'?

You mean due to all the heatpipes? Lets hope not. I for one am looking forward to the new chipset and a low wattage Penryn quad-core. Fun times ahead...

any idea how many SATA and USB ports the ICH9 and ICH9R proivdes?
Also will there be any new options as far RAID is concerned?

I'm lookin forward to it especially if the northbridge and southbridge are manufactured on 65nm,power efficient computing
But the heatpipes seem to indicate that its a really hot chip

ok forgive me for being a noob as this is going to be a dangerously obvious answer but i cant find it anywhere but, are the new penryn or whatever cpu's gonna be on the socket 775 setup? im curious cause if thats the case then they should work in my striker extreme via a bios flash right?

Any guesses on when a P35 board will be available in the US for under $180?

If it'll be a few months, I'll just pick up a 965 board.

Looking that way gorka...bummer too. Was hoping to give Abit the business. But that Asus P5K Deluxe may be too good to resist...
