I don't believe it officially supports DDR2 1066 but it would certainly be benefical to have for better OC's with good ram timings and it will probably work.

The RAM I'm using I think is the same of yours, http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820145034 (Which I'm glad I got it when it was $60 cheaper)

I don't think the RAM is the bottleneck. Right now with my OC setup I'm actually running the ram slower than its rated speed, because I wanted a 1:1 divider I set the memory multiplier to 2 from auto. The DQ6 seems to default to 2:3.

What ram should i Buy??

As I have said many many times the 965 chipset isvery picky about memory. I am using the Corsair 6400C4 running at 1000MHz @ 5-5-5-15. It runs like a champ at 800MHz @ 4-4-4-12 as well.

you can see my setup in my signature and i had no problems at all getting as far as i am and will go farthur once i get some better cooling on my RAM. but yeah i have no trouble at all OCing with the setup i have and it runs very stable. Im running the F4 final bios but i had this OC on the F3 final just as easy.

Yes we have the same mobo (Gigabyte DQ6 F3 BIOS). To access the custom RAM settings press Ctrl-F1 inside the main BIOS screen. Then when you enter the M.I.T section you will see the now visiable RAM settings. This is byfar one of the best OC BIOS I have seen! You get great granualarity when setting your RAM timings.

Remember that you have the 6600 (Conroe 4meg cache) while I have the 6300 (Allendale 2meg cache). the Allendale has been showing a much greater ability to overclock.

Without much tweaking I got the 6300 to an 88% overclock (1860MHz oc to 3499MHz) prime stable (on each core) for 21 hours! That is by no means something to scoff at. At the same time my coworker got the 6700 and is having a heck of a time hitting 3.1GHz (just a 16% overclock). Now he is running aprox 400MHz slower than me, HOWEVER, his superpi to 1 million is 16.425 and mine is 16.593 which shows that eventhough he is 400MHz slower on paper, he is in actuality ever so slightly faster if not the same speed as me. I just remind him that I paid $400 less than him and that shuts him down.

dasmokedog: heheh yes i seee your point..

Abut the screen, as you see my setup, you can see i already know how to acces the CTRL F1 advanced settings.
The Qustion is Why or where is the RAM DEVIDER SETTING ??? it seems that there is no setting on this board for RAM DEVIDER..?

Yes i see, but you have 800 mhz ram, mine is only 667, and thy will simply not run faster.
And whit no RAM DEVIDER setting on the MB we simply cant get any where over the settings I have now.
No matter what we do, we even have to set the timing DOWN to get them to run 667 LOL and the are 667 default..
This is ram that sucks big time, if this ram cant even run, at the speeds thy are made for..

So im in need of some new GOOD GOOD, RAM...
im looking for 2x1 Gig's of some ram i can OC like mad on my board...
So any one have any suggestions for what to buy please post.
Thanks

I just tried lowering the cpu multiplier to 7 and raised the fsb to reach 3ghz, no go there, wouldn't post.

So now I'm back at the stock 9 with a 334 fsb, but now I'm running my system memory multiplier at 2.5, which gives me a 4:5 divider and puts my ram at 832 mhz, a bit over is stock speed.

I'm wondering if i should get a 6400 to OC with heh, what is it that makes those OC so much better than the 6600 and 6700.

so im not happy at all whit the results of this CPU or my RAM..
But i willl go get my self NEW ram first and then try it one again..

Thanks for info (system memory multiplier)

By the way im still looking for RAM.
What i should BUY ??

Thanks

Leave system memorey multiplier at 2.00 (that's 1:1 ration).
Those RAM timings you left at 10, change to AUTO.
Try memory performance FAST.
Try VDim +0.3V
Try GMCH and FSB Overvoltage +0.10V <-- this is really needed for 24/7 overclock in most cases
If it works, try reducing VCore to 1.3725

I had also an E6600 for some days in my 1st rig and could not clock it above 3.0GHz, no matter what.

Looks like this would be the right thread to ask a quick question or two. I've just finished building a new system, with the following relevant parts:

Core 2 Duo E6600
Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6
OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 800Mhz (2x1G)

etc etc etc. My question is in regards to mildly overclocking this. I'm not interested in getting into the higher-end stuff; no watercooling, etc.

I ran it for several days with the MIT utility set as follows:

CPU Host Clock Control: Disabled
CPU Host Frequency: 266 (auto-set, 2400MHz)
System Memory Multiplier: 3.3
Memory Frequency: 888

Everything has been very stable, no problems. I've changed it to the following:

CPU Host Clock Control: Enabled
CPU Host Frequency: 333 (3000MHz)
System Memory Multiplier: 2.66
Memory Frequency: 888

All seems well, anything else I should consider? I've tried the higher CPU freq with the higher memory multiplier (3.3) but couldn't get it to boot, so I'm assuming the memory can't handle that.

Gigabyte only certifies this board up to PC6400 (DDR2 800), BUT the board does support PC8000 (DDR2 1000) and PC8500 (DDR21066). I think you can even run the new PC 8800 (DDR2 1100), but I do not know for sure.

Unbuffered memory is memory where the memory controller module drives the memory directly, instead of using a store-and-forward system like registered memory.

Basically if you are building a PC, Gaming rig, Internet surfer...ie not a server class machine then you will almost always go with unbuffered memory.

I ask because my coworker has the 6700 and the ASUS P5B and is not getting much love with his overclocking. I am curious if the DQ6 would be a better choice for him (I absolutly love the DQ6).

Your speed is among the highest I've seen

Would you be nice and post your MIT settings?

I can reach 450 with 6x multiplier but didn't even try more, as the CPU seems to be the problem (I have to jack up the VCore above 3.2GHz and that would take the core temp above 61C under load).

I though about placing my E6400 into the DS4 and the E6300 into the DQ6, to see if something changes. I have the feeling the E6300 could go higher than the E6400.

I have a couple of pics of my MIT settings about midway through this link:
http://smokedog.org/500MHz/oc.html

At 3.5GHz my load temps are about 62c (speed fan) and 71c(Core Temp). I am not too worried about it since the TCaseMax of this proc is 85c.

Make sure that your memory can handle the speed. I replaced my Value Select with some Corsair 6400C4. This memory is stable running 1000MHz @ 5-5-5-15 or 800MHz @ 4-4-4-12. Right now the memory is the bottleneck (again). If I wanted to plop down some fat coin and get some of that $500 DDR2 8000 or 8500 and then my wall would be cooling.

I am going to lap my proc and see what that does for my temps then ponder a water cooling solution. I am aiming for this 3.5GHz in a totaly silent setup.

damnnn 500 effin fsb on air thats damn impressive bro, yeah I'm at 440FSB atm I can't seem to make it orthos stable past 3520, and I can't make it post past 3600'ish. last time i tried to boot at 455 my system wouldnt boot until I reset the cmos... :

I'm running 2 E6600's @ 370FSB=3.330Ghz on the DQ6 Motherboard, also a X6800EE @ 3.804Ghz but on a different Motherboard (ASUS P5W DH Deluxe)...I've been running the BOINC Projects 24/7 with all 3 without any hic-up's or error's in the WU's so the settings I'll give you too try on the Gigabyte DQ6 are Stable as far as I'm concerned ...

Also since I don't see some of the settings I have in my BIOS [F6] I don't know if you know it or not but once you see the BIOS Screen to Press Ctrl & while holding down Ctrl to Press F1 too, this will allow you to see some extra Settings in the BIOS that you won't see unless you do that first ...

These Settings work for me with the DQ6 & E6600 @ a 370FSB Setting & Air Cooling only, how they'll work for you I don't know as each CPU is different and reacts differently to Settings but they are something to try. Also a lot depends on your CPU cooler, I'm using a ThermalTake Big Typhoon VX on both E6600's & my CPU Temps are 29c-32c under Full Load, the higher your CPU Temps are the more likely of Failure the higher you push your FSB & Voltage...Good Luck...PoorBoy

NOTE: I've hit a roadblock myself @ 370FSB, I've tried a variety of different settings but 370FSB seems to be a stumbling block for a lot of people, I have managed to go a little higher on 1 of the E6600's but I'm still testing to see if it's stable or not ...
