What program are you using to read temperatures??

In Easytune.. which reminds me.. how do you monitor BIOS temps under load?

EasyTune reported temps at 39-40 at idle.

What's the ambient temp in your office (or wherever your comp is)?

Ambient temps about 78F.

Still wondering how you can monitor BIOS temps while stress testing. Is that possible? Is there a Windows app that does that?

Can't really monitor load temps in bios. Damn, mine reads 48 degrees at idle in Easytune and that's on a BigTyphoon...I doubt that's right. SOmetimes it drops to like 25 degrees and stays like that until I reboot. I really wish I could find the correct temperatures.

as for measuring the BIOS temps, do many motherboards even have thermal sensors on the BIOS chip? if not, then you would have to get some sort of temp. probe and measure that way.

He means measuring load cpu temps in bios.

How do you know when you're heating up the NB too much? I'll be getting in my 6400 and DS3 next week, and would like to go for a 3Ghz+ OC. Are you looking at any particular cooler for the NB?

I myself touched the NB heatsink and actually burned my finger.

I've pointed a fan at it now but I've ordered a Thermalright HR-05 heatsink for the NB so hopefully that takes care of that heat issue. I'll hold off on overclocking further until I get it in.

thilan:

that would certainly make a lot more sense!

don't really think there is a great way to do that, other then external sensors, which aren't all that accurate.

then again, given my previous post, i am not sure i would listen to anything that I say

Let me know if it fits in there, that thing is huge!

Sure thing. I hope it fits too with my Big Typhoon in there.

@thilan29 - I checked on the Thermalright website, and they don't show that cooler as ccompatible with the DS3 or the 965 chipset (it's not even on the list, so maybe just not updated yet?) It seems like it might interfere with the CPU heatsink, as they're kinda close together. Let us know how that works out, would'ya?

@Ruhnie - From what I understand, you're heating the NB up to much when the board fails to POST

@hennethannun - As thilan correctly deducted; no, I don't particularly care what temp my bios chip is. As long as it isn't melting.

Yeah I checked the list but it looks like they haven't updated. Don't quote me but I THINK someone at Xtremesystems has one with the DS3.

I wont have the vid card heat as all I am using is an ATI X1300...I dont game....This dragster wil be ocing fun, mutlimedia, and folding the rest of the time....Heck it may live on a desk for weeks until I liek the parts...I would like to see what ATI and Nvidia will have to offer...

You can tell someone's been doing their research. I was reckoning i'd do exactly the same thing. Was looking at this as one of the options, relatively quiet and moves some air. Got any other fans in mind Duvie?

I was looking at a few at SVC.com. Also look at placing an 80-92mm fan directly to the side of the ram to blow over the board arund the NB, ram, and power caps....this may help. It seems sometimes when you have huge canopies with these large HSF for the cpu the heat can often get trapped around these components...could work against the cooling of these devices..

Totally, when you have a big tower cooler like the Ninja it seems like it would pretty much kill any airflow over the RAM.

The price is way over a single 40mm fan but what do you reckon about this thermalright NB heatsink, you reckon it would fit with the ninja?

Other than that it seems with 40mm fans you have to decide between loud and higher cfm or quiet and lower cfm.

The thermalright HR-05 has got some positive reviews, that's why I ordered one in...will post my results when I get it.

I am not sure if it will fit with the Ninja...I will wait for thilan's review of it....

Yeah I'm not sure if it will fit with the Ninja, but looking at my system with the Big Typhoon, I THINK there should be enough room since it's not very wide. Fitting a fan however on the HR-05 with my video card there might be an issue because the bolts at the back of the Danger Den water block on the video card stick out a lot and is about 1mm away from the stock NB heatsink on the DS3.

Considering it's placement on the DS3 and as long as you have good airflow I don't imagine you'd need a fan.

I've got a cooling fetish.

Wish I could afford phase change cooling.

You thinking of having a fan (80-92mm) on the top side of the mobo (considering a normal setup) and blowing down towards the RAM, MOSFETs and vid card?
