Gigabyte EP45-DS3R - S3 Standby Mode

Does anyone have problems waking up from S3 standby mode with their Gigabyte EP45-DS3R motherboard and E8400/E8500/E8600 combo ?

I would like to know before I decide to make a purchase and thanks in advance for your response.

My current system is a Gigabyte P35-DS3R (see my signature) and it cannot wake up from S3 standby mode when the motherboard's FSB is greater than 300MHz. If I set my system to run at 3.2GHz with 320MHz X 10 settings, then my computer would not wake up from S3 standby mode, the screen would go blank and I have to turn off the power and do a cold boot.

I plan to build another computer with the E8500 CPU (333MHz FSB) and want to make sure that the Gigabyte EP45-DS3R can wake up from S3 standby mode with the 333MHz FSB that the E8500 needs.

Mine gets BSOD from waking up from sleep mode. Using Vista-64 bit.

This problem is harware related and the OS has nothing to do with it. On my current system, I can wake up from S3 without any problems as long as the FSB is below 300MHz, but as soon as I increase the FSB above 300MHz then I have problems.

Sounds like Gigabyte didn't bother to fix this problem and let it carry over to their new P45 platform. I had communicated with Gigabyte extensively about this issue with my P35-DS3R motherboard but they couldn't offer any fix for it. I guess it's time to look for another motherboard manufacturer.

Can someone give a recommendation ? I just want a stable motherboard that can wake up from S3 standby mode at 333MHz FSB or higher to work with the E8500 CPU. Thanks.

mine also bsods on wake up. the system woke up fine with a gigabyte p35 board. the only change was the mobo and cpu and now, bsods. ive given up on sleep now. it was great while it it worked on the old board. i miss it.

I can't believe this issue is still around. I have a GA-965P-DS3 that also has problems with a black screen resuming from S3 mode. I was actually thinking of upgrading it to a GA-EP45-DS3R board to try to resolve the issue. I guess that idea is out the window.

If you OC and have problems, reduce the OC until it works right, or go back down to the rated clock speed. If it doesn't work at the normal clock speed, these are all Windows Vista Certified motherboards so you can threaten to complain to Microsoft that they aren't living up to their end of the bargain. Vista Certified hardware should be perfect and the manufacturer needs to keep it operating properly if it has any critical issues like failing to resume from suspend.

I would try that, but I have absolutely no interest in running my machine at stock speed If my motherboard won't resume from standby mode, I just won't use standby mode. I chalk it up as something that would be nice to have, but not if it means going to stock speed. I do use this computer as a multi-function machine including as a HTPC. It would be nice to have S3 standby mode working, because if it was working correctly it would wake up from sleep just to record a show and go back to sleep. Oh well, having a fast PC is more important to me than having S3 standby working. I've been trying every new BIOS that comes out hoping that maybe they will eventually fix it, but I'm not holding my breath!

mine bsods instantly on wake up at stock speed or overclocked. doesnt matter.

Does anyone know if this problem is also present in the P43-based Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L? I'm considering one for a Vista64 build with an E8500. Thanks!

I never had any luck with S3(STR) setting over the years and always use S1(POS). I never had trouble once I used that setting. If I'm not using my PC I shut it down. =)

I'm hooked to S3 standby mode. There is no way for me to go back to S1. Besides, I expect S3 standby mode to work, at least at stock speed, in any motherboard that I'd buy since it is a standard feature and I paid the money for it.

Did you upgrade to the latest f10 bios? It supposedly fixes the s3 resume issue in vista.

i was just going to post this. i saw the new f10 last night and loaded it up. i was successfully able to wake up without an instant bluescreen. it was late and i was only able to try it once, but hopefully its repeatable.
