I noticed all of you Conroe users are using Gigabyte mobos, instead of the usual ASUS & MSI for intel.....

Why is it??? Is Gigabyte offering more performance than Asus....

What about MSI or Genuine Intel Mobos for conroe????

Does Intel mobos offers good performance too?????

Because we don't want to pay $250 for a motherboard. Gigabyte gets the job done in my opinion, it has for me anyway.

Yes, the price. However many people have had issues with Gigabyte boards with various things. Memory and RAID come to mind. Other than that it's as good as Asus. That's not to say that ASUS boards don't have some problems too.

The reason I went with my Gigabyte board is for three reasons. I'll list those, but please keep something in mind first: I am an avid fan of Asus boards (my last 3 have been Asus).

1) Availability. The Asus boards I want are not available in the US right now; only the Asias and possibly Europe. NewEgg has some models which aren't even listed on Asus' site, which makes me wary.

2) BIOS options. Gigabyte, despite all of the reviews, has the most configurable options there is. Asus has been gradually cutting back their BIOS options more and more (for no reason). Intel boards have never come with very many options.

3) Support. I have dealt with Gigabyte in the past, speaking with both managers and techs at their California facility via phone, in attempt to diagnose some issues with older boards (which they fixed!). Talking to Asus is like pulling teeth -- you'll be lucky if you can get a response from them via Email, and whoever you talk to on the phone is always either A) complete generic tech ("did you try reseating your RAM?") or B) a secretary who simply acts as a communication liason, forwarding requests blindly to others.

I **did not** buy my Gigabyte board for overclocking. I do not overclock, nor will I ever.

I will state that the Conroe-based Gigabyte boards seem to be very picky about memory; no denying that. But I always review forums before I go buying a board -- and because of this, I went with purchasing Corsair Micro memory purely because I didn't want to take any chances.

Hope this helps answer some of your questions.

Not all Conroe users are using Gigabyte mobos. ::chuckle:: The DS3 is one of the best, if not the best, overclocking 965 mobos for the E6300 & E6400 though. Its early OCing abilities and reasonable price earned it alot of praise from the pc community. Right now Gigabyte and ASUS have the better Conroe mobos IMO. Intel isnt a slouch but they been slower getting their BIOS updates out. This is important IMO due to stability concerns all Conroe mobos had in the beginning.

Price wise the DS3 is hard to beat.

For $50 less than a P5B and E6300, you can get s DS3 and an E6400
