My dad is trying to run a 900 MHz Slot-A CPU in a Gigabyte GA-71x. When the computer is turned on with nothing connected but the keyboard, mouse, and monitor, and nothing attached to the board other than the mem and vid card, it will not POST. All it says is CPUID 0642. It does not get to the mem test, and you cannot enter the BIOS. I think that CPUID is for a Slot-A Thunderbird, but I'm not sure (is there a chart somewhere I can check this?). I know there were issues with slot-A boards supporting t-bird CPUs, and I'm wondering if that is the problem. The board is an AMD 750 chipset. Anyone have suggestions? I can't believe it can't even get into the BIOS. I thought that the boards that had the problems with Slot-A T-birds would run, but they weren't stable. We have also tried clearing the CMOS, but that did not work, we tried another CPU (800 MHZ) and it gives us the same error. Thanks
