Gigabyte GA-8IRXP Overclock Question?

I have the GA-8IRXP mobo (running on BIOS Rev. F6) with the following:

Intel PentiumIV 2.0A (Northwood)
512MB Kingston ValueRAM DDR (PC2100)
Creative Audigy Gamer
PNY Vertigo TI4400

I've had a number of problems tweaking the BIOS settings in trying to OC my new box. I have NO problems when I leave the BIOS settings alone (i.e. Normal voltage (1.5v), 100FSB, etc.). When I change the voltage to 1.55, 1.6, etc. (up to 1.7v) and play with the FSB speeds (101 - 110) the system will not post when I cold boot the system. When I turn the machine off for the night, the machine does not post the next day (after it's had time to cool off). I sit there for 20 seconds then the machine recycles and posts with the default BIOS settings (i.e. 100FSB). If I'm on the machine and make BIOS changes and reboot, the machine will come up with a FSB of 115 or less. I've tried to set the FSB to 133 then set the PCI/AGP Divider to PLL/16. By setting this, the PCI and AGP buses are at spec, (33/66) respecitvely. I have a feeling that my Kingston ValueRAM is the problem. I cannot lock the speed of the RAM. Although, I've change the Host/DRAM Clock Ratio from Auto (2.66) to 2.0. Still I've had no success trying to push this machine.

People have mentioned KingMAX DDR333 and I may try that. I don't want to spend another $170 or so if it's not going to allow me to set the FSB to 133. I'm frustrated with my progress in trying to OC this machine. I know that no two CPU's are alike. I got what I paid for, a 2.0GHz machine that runs excellent when I'm not trying to OC. Although I would like to get at the least a 5 - 10% improvement if I could.

Anyone seriously think that my PC2100 is limiting my OC'ing?

Regards,
Brian

I can't believe that you haven't already found the answer to this problem (next time try searching the forums, or even google for that matter). The Gigabyte board has a known problem with cold boots when the voltage is adjusted. The latest revision of the BIOS will allow for manual adjustment of up to 1.65 volts....

If you are looking for a more drastic solution (and aren't willing to wait as Gigabyte's UK support has indicated that they are interested in fixing this via another BIOS update) you can wire wrap the pins or solder the pins on your P4.

Someone posted a link a little further down in another thread about this board to a website that gives explicit instructions on how to modify your CPU so that it will always force the correct voltage, effectively bypassing the cold boot voltage adjustment problem.

Hi all,
I have a P4 2,2 ghz. I can overclock it up to 2,68ghz (122 x 22) without getting the boot issue. Only one fsb more and it s there!
This seems strange for me, cause i read that in the F6 Bios, the next p4 (P4B) is already integrated. And 20 x 133 is 2,66 ghz.
So my theory: One day, when a p4 arrives wich is faster than 2,66 mhz, the boot issue will be solved a little bit more.

Is there anybody who can o'clock is p4 over 2.66 without getting the bootissue???

Change from disable to pll16 in the bios this might help ups the mgz of the memory but if you have quality sticks won't be a problem.
