(pokes head out of hole) Hi, just got a GA-8IRXP, P4 1.6a, 2 60gig ata133 Maxtor drives for raid.
Had the F4 bios on it, tried flashing to newer F5 bios.
After that had erractic cpu and memory speeds being reported on boot (1.06ghz and 177 memory bus speed)
Returned to F4 and that fixed problems.
Wanted to use the newer bios because sometimes when overclocked the machine will not post at all, and the newer bios has a timeout
function to reboot on auto with default clockspeeds.
(this damn board has no way to clear the bios by jumpers, have to pull the battery, ugh)
Anyone know if there is a new bios on the way?
Thanks...
Dave

Gigabyte tech is aware of the reboot problem. Being that the Chinese New Year is FINALLY over, we will probably be seeing something soon! I know the reboot bug is annoying, but luckily for me, all I need to do is turn off by power button and turn it back on. Some others had to actually pull the power cords.

I had a Asus P4B266 before this and while it was a nice board, I felt the price of it wasn't justifiable for the features. I really wanted a Soyo P4I Fire Dragon, so I returned the Asus for that. I could never get the board to overclock worth a crap though! Everyone said that the board was a overclockers dream, but mine musta been wet, I was kinda reluctant to try the Gigabyte knowing from their past boards that they were mediocre. However, I took the plunge and am glad I did! The Asus was slower in memory and cpu scores. The Gigabyte board rocks! The price of the board vs the features is excellent as well!

Thanks much, I've found that i can power off and restart, unplugging and restart is failsafe. The board is great, no other probs..
Just got back from friends house that has the same setup.
He got into Windows and ran benchmarks at 2.6gig
2.4 is working well for him, seems stable, ran prime for 4 hours with no probs.
Using Sunflower on cpu, only mod I know of.
Running this one now at 2.1gig, don't know if I had to but set cpu voltageto1.6 for the heck of it, pci and agp running stock.

I too have this board coming tomorrow morning with a 1.6A
I had a previous bad experience with their F5 beta bios for the GA7VTXH with the STR being broken.
Sent them an email and within a fortnight they had a new F5 bios that totally fixed everything
I knew about the issues before i ordered the GA8IRXP but as its the only board i like the look of at the moment i am willing to wait for this apparent broken bios issue to be fixed.
Which bios would you guys recommend me use in the meantime to run a 1.6A on 133fsb wit6h memory also running at 133mhz with default voltages?

gneitzke69 - What issues if any are you seeing with the F4 bios with your memory/fsb running at 133?

With the F4 bios, the only issue is the reboot problem if you are running your vcore at anything but stock (auto in the bios). If you change it in the bios, even to 1.50 volts, then the reboot issue is there. The only other problem that I have seen is that if I select 133 is the bios, the board actually runs at 132. You have to select 134 to run at the 133 setting. The board is rock stable! My 1.8A is running at 2.4 @ 1.6250 volts rock solid. I have 512mb of Kingmax DDR333. I am really happy with this setup. Just hope that Gigabyte fixes the reboot issue quickly! You should be very happy with this board. I had a Asus P4B266 before this and like this one much better. The memory scores are better than the Asus also.

Good luck and let us know how it goes...

no issues w/ my memory @ 133, heck my memory was fine @ 163 mhz lol but the reboot issue was there when the voltage was changed :-/ so i decided that i should back it off a big until the reboot isues get fixed, so my memory ran fine just standard samsung pc2100

cobrasvt - thanx for the info
Im only planning on running with everything running auto apart from the FSB which i will run at 133. With these settings and the info youve given, sounds like i may not see any of the problems as long as i dont start tinkering
As for how long for new bios - i reckon 2 weeks max comparing to my previous experience with my GA7VTXH (fingers crossed)

Ive just got my GA8IRXP up and running and must say im very impressed
Im running the F5 bios with no issues at present as im not overclocking till ive got used to the rig first.
I emailed Gigabyte about the issues surrounding this board and got this reply:-

<< Dear Chris,
Both the first two problems only become an issue if you intend to overclock and the bus speed ahs been take to 137Mhz in tests. The vocre setting does work but will require a hard reset if you are using the manual setting. Both this latter problem and the bug in the f5 are being worked on. Mike Mullen FAE

Looking good that they acknowledge that theyre doing something about it

Go check out the Gigabyte newsgroups on Usenet. The reboot issue is a very common problem and Gigabyte claims that they are "supposedly" unable reproduce the reboot problem. My friend had two of these boards and both were returned.

I would not suggest buying any motherboard based on what "might" be fixed in the future.

i just got off the gigabyte news group and it looks like with this bios they are still having the bus problems that the f5 had, plus the reboot issues ;-/

It looks like this board hates oc'ing as the F6c bios has sorted the 2/3 PCI for me at default bus settings/volts but you overclocking guys are still having probs
At least we know theyre working on a resolution

I downloaded the f6d bios and upgraded from the f6c bios....and i have good news and bad news ...

good news..
the voltage does NOT top out at 1.7v as it did with the f6c bios (anything at 1.7v & above - it flunctuated at 1.680v and 1.710v) ..so am able to overclock my 1.6a to 2.8 (1.75V) and run all 3dmarkMark2001se test without a single hitch and run sisoft sandra burn-in test for 5 loops (didnt try more as i had to be at work) successfully.

bad news...
the reboot/boot problems are still there!!

gigabyte fix this problem already...apart from that this board is easily the best board i've gotten. I was skeptical when i heard gigabyte doesnt release bioses often enough and tech support was bad but i've gotten new bioses every week...

hopefully i'll get one that addresses the rebbot/bot issue

Im wondering if you maybe have a lemon board or maybe it could be your PSU?
I have had similar problems with other motherboards and it turned out to be my Enermax PSU that was the culprit.
Once i switched to an Antec PSU ive had no more reboot issues - even with this GA8IRXP with all the bioses.
Your right about the tech support - from my previous experiences, Gigabyte have got to be one of the best in the business at the moment thank goodness. Though i think this is dependent on the individual you deal with as some of their tech's in the USA apparently arent up to snuff according to some forum goers.

I have used the F6 final and do not have the problem, but other people are still reporting the issue. I would say try it and see.

Bingo, did you have the problem before you flashed it? Did the update fix it? Thanks in advance.
