I had same problem, to get HD in UDMA 6 load the SIS IDE Drivers on the CD, as far as reboots with ram, had that problem also.. I think I fixxed it, run Bus speed insync with DDR.. So 160Bus, 320DDR, seem to be running good now

I can't seem to find the SIS IDE drivers on the CD...can you point to me what the file names are? Can't find the option in the Autorun.

What do you mean in sync? I'm running it at stock settings which is 133 and DDR400... 400 is a multiple of 133....

In fact, it reseted on me when I was updating the BIOS!!!! I RMA'd it back to newegg... but without any in stock, I wonder when I will be getting a new board =( ....... It's just constantly reseting itself..... even in the BIOS... I don't think that's normal....

I had same problem.. What I mean is what ever FSB u choose, if u are running 133 Bus then you need to choose 266 for mem.. and bet it will work then

But that's not really a solution.... Runing the RAM slower than the spcifications is simply avoiding the problem....

The main reason for buying this motherboard was to run my RAM at dual channel DDR 400......

i just installed my 8sq800 last night and everything went incredibly smooth, service packed and win updated and all drivers installed without a hitch(i shoulda known all hell was gonna break loose right there)

the rig was flying and i was extremely pleased. so i decided to bump my 2.5 400 up to 127fsb where it had been on my 8sg800. no go, wouldnt post.

so i backed it down to 125, locked the divider at 66/33, ran my corsair 512mb pc3200 LL PT at cas 2, and boosted the vcore to 1.65 and it screamed to the desktop, then all hell broke loose, i started getting 'failed delay write error' all over the place and the machine would lock.

so i backed it down, even to the point of stock settings and it still is bjorked with the delayed write errors.

i am stumped, did i smoke something? did my not very aggressive OC cause corrupt data to be writted to the OS and screw the install? i thought these boards could take alot more OC, so i didnt think i was risking anything.

just for fyi the rest of the box

9700 pro
530w tru power
sblive
3 com nic

also i didnt flash to F4 because i obviously dont have a need for HT

thanks for any info on this

"whoa, not all at once now"

I don't think there are many people who have this board yet so I wouldn't be upset that you didn't get an answer right away.

Glad you figured it out. Those of us who are waiting to buy this board would appreciate your opinion about the board and what the problem you fixed was ?

TIA

First Post!

I am also very interested in what obstacles everyone has run into so far. I'm still trying to decide between the non-ultra, and the ultra model. This is my first computer that I've built. I need to run AutoCAD Inventer Series 6, from what ever I build, and I assumed that the Dual-Channel Memory would come in handy. The question I have is about this "Matched" or "Identical Memory" that Corsair is selling for $350.00 (I'm referring to the 2 512 mb sticks)? Couldn't you just get a pair of Samsung (512MB) 3200's?

As you can see I'm trying to be as economical as possible, but the rendering demands for the Inventor Series means I need something pretty serious, so I'll get the Corsairs if I have to but if anybody's had luck with the Samsung's, or something of the like I'd sure appreciate it someone could drop a line.

BTW: So far I have... Macron 400 PSU (Is this enough power if I get a Radeon 9700 pro?)
Medium ATX case
WD 120 GB SE (with XP Pro Installed (is the BIOS going to wipe-out my harddrive?)
4 Directron Silencer 80mm fans (I was thinking about a 120 mm blowhole on top... How bad is the heat in the case? Is air-cooling even a feasible opton? Also I've got a 60mm to 80mm adapter that I'm hoping to use on the CPU's heatsink but I've noticed that the CPU is going to be kinda close to the power supply has anybody experienced this as being a close fit? Am I asking too many questions?

Yeah, I think I need to stop...

Sorry, it was late, and i was tired and bitchy

The board I got from googlegear came with a Firewire daughtercard too.

It appears to have been a corrupt XP instal, although the previous install worked fine until I started to OC. I am suspecting a corrupt write botched the OS.

I reinstalled last night, and everything went off perfectly as before, but this time I did not overclock. I am going to ghost the install this time before I go goofing around with an OC. the gigabyte driver disk has a nice all in one install now, with more extra utlities. I was also able to flash the bios from windows without a hitch.

The machine flies, thats totally subjective as I have not benched yet, but its the speed of boot, file transfers, and apps is very noticeable from my gigabyte sg667.

the only problem i have seen so far is one thats been documented by others over at asusboards. usb mice will lag out in the middle of games. i tried alternating the usb ports but still had really bad lag. i solved the problem by moving my logitech mx500 to the ps/2 port.

all i have for now, but so far i am thrilled with the marked performance boost of this board.

Well it seems i spoke too soon.

Got home tonight and booted the machine after using it all last night to play CS, and the Delayed Failed Write Errors began immediately.

This time I managed to get into safe mode and the machine ran fine there so I knew it was probably a drive issue. Through the process of elimination I have found that the latest Catalyst drivers for my 9700 Pro are the source of the problem.

I was running the Version: 6.14.01.6292 Packaging Version: 7-83-030120a1-007447c Catalysts.

Right now the machine is running fine on my old gf4 4600.

I guess its time to contact ATI.

Hi folks...

I got my SINXP on friday and had a right pain in the arse installing it cause there's no floppy containing the ITE RAID controllers drivers in the package. I put them onto floppy and tried again but the XP installer moaned because the floppy label was not "ITE ITE8212 RAID Driver Diskette", or something like that.
Got there in the end though, but beware if you are using the RAID controller for all of your drives...

Overclocking has been a bit weak though - got my 2.4 @ 2.6 at the moment (1.6v CPU) and it's nice n stable but doesn't want to go much higher. That's with 2x256 Corsair XMS 3200 sticks running at 333 plus whatever's added from the FSB overclock.
Oh, and I can't enable Top Performance in the BIOS either, even at stock speeds.

Overall though I'm very happy - this board absolutely flies compared to my old KT7-RAID and 800Mhz Athlon. Lots quieter too with a Volcano 7 at low speed (can't get it over 40 degrees either!)

Here's one for you guys though;

Night before last I was playing Syberia till about 1 (great game btw), saved it and shut down. Everything seemed fine.
Yesterday got home from work powered up. No boot up probems, I don't think, but most of the contents of my profile seemed to have disappeared (some dirs and the odd file were still about) along with all the contents of the birds.
After trying a system restore - no good - and reinstalling I kept getting "Invalid boot.ini" messages during startup (after a brand new install on a fresh formatted partition too!). Eventually sorted this (by booting from XP seedy, and doing a "bootcfg /rebuild" from the recovery console).

So - everythings cool now (after a complete reinstall), and I've taken a drive image now so it shouldn't be so painful if it happens again but WTF?
I don't think it was a virus, since I had nav installed, so the only thing I can think of is that the machine powered down whilst the profile was being written back to disk. But then why did the birds disappear as well?

Anyone got any comments/ideas cause I'm stumped, and just hoping that it hasn't happened again when I get home tonight

Cheers,
Krusty

The latest posts on Asusboards indicate that some sis655 boards
are running well with FSB over 175 !!!

Just has another drive error, ran chkdsk and it fixed a few problems...
I can't help thinking that the RAID controller is a bit flakey.

I have 3 HD's on the ITE RAID controller, not in a RAID array, and 3 optical drives on the standard IDE controllers.
Is anyone else running a similar setup and had any odd disk errors?

I don't think my drive is on the way out since it's always been fine.

Can anyone help me. I cant get my 2 sticks of 512k PC2700 Samsung to run dual channel. Their identical, double sided. When I put in 2 stick of Crucial 256mb PC2100, one single sided, one double sided, they run in dual channel mode.

Any thoughts on this?

Lou

Ive heard lots of different things on OCing with SiS655, mostly that 170 is the limit. Im gonna test this teory out in a few days, as a Swiftech MCX4000 will be here. And the ram i have wont be an issue, as i can step it down. Ill post when I reach the limit of my board.

"Couldn't you just get a pair of Samsung (512MB) 3200's"

Ya you could, and it would work really well. Corsair uses Samsung chips in thier ram, so Samsung is preatty much corsair without the preatty ramsinks.

Also, the PSU should be ok, but i would look into a better one. The case should be fine with all those fans. If you plan to OC you might want to get a nicer one.
