Hi folks...
I got my SINXP on friday and had a right pain in the arse installing it cause there's no floppy containing the ITE RAID controllers drivers in the package. I put them onto floppy and tried again but the XP installer moaned because the floppy label was not "ITE ITE8212 RAID Driver Diskette", or something like that.
Got there in the end though, but beware if you are using the RAID controller for all of your drives...
Overclocking has been a bit weak though - got my 2.4 @ 2.6 at the moment (1.6v CPU) and it's nice n stable but doesn't want to go much higher. That's with 2x256 Corsair XMS 3200 sticks running at 333 plus whatever's added from the FSB overclock.
Oh, and I can't enable Top Performance in the BIOS either, even at stock speeds.
Overall though I'm very happy - this board absolutely flies compared to my old KT7-RAID and 800Mhz Athlon. Lots quieter too with a Volcano 7 at low speed (can't get it over 40 degrees either!)
Here's one for you guys though;
Night before last I was playing Syberia till about 1 (great game btw), saved it and shut down. Everything seemed fine.
Yesterday got home from work powered up. No boot up probems, I don't think, but most of the contents of my profile seemed to have disappeared (some dirs and the odd file were still about) along with all the contents of the birds.
After trying a system restore - no good - and reinstalling I kept getting "Invalid boot.ini" messages during startup (after a brand new install on a fresh formatted partition too!). Eventually sorted this (by booting from XP seedy, and doing a "bootcfg /rebuild" from the recovery console).
So - everythings cool now (after a complete reinstall), and I've taken a drive image now so it shouldn't be so painful if it happens again but WTF?
I don't think it was a virus, since I had nav installed, so the only thing I can think of is that the machine powered down whilst the profile was being written back to disk. But then why did the birds disappear as well?
Anyone got any comments/ideas cause I'm stumped, and just hoping that it hasn't happened again when I get home tonight
Cheers,
Krusty
