Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2V won't boot in AHCI

I tested the board as received with a bare HD and BIOS set to boot from CD/DVD drive with Win 7 set-up disc in it. It booted and the Win7 setup screen soon appeared. I did not install Win 7 at this time.
I rebooted to BIOS (still set to boot from CD/DVD drive/Win 7 disc), I then changed to AHCI mode and and powered up. I then saw a message, 'loading operating system'. After some time I heard the CD?DVD drive running and after a while, the message appeared, 'NTLDR is missing'. Any one know what's going on?

You MIGHT have to set the drive to IDE in bios, install windows then try this:

I know this applies to Vista and Windows 7, not sure about XP:

"If you decide to change from IDE to AHCI and you’re unfamiliar with editing the windows registry, Microsoft has an excellent “Fix It Tool” that makes the necessary changes.

All you need to do is,

1. Run the “FIX IT Tool 50470”

2. Reboot and enter the BIOS

3. Go to Main - Storage Configuration and configure SATA as AHCI.

4. Go to Boot - Hard Disk Drives and set your Bootable Drive as the first drive.

5. Go to Boot Device Priority and make sure your bootable drive is in the correct order.

6. Make sure that you “Save Your Setting” before you exit the BIOS. Once booted into windows, if all went well, windows will see the new hardware and configure it as needed.

Something doesn't make sense. NTLDR is a Windows XP start-up file. Are you sure you have a clean drive?

Change to AHCI in BIOS. Reboot. Enter bios again. NOW SET THE BOOT ORDER (after enabling AHCI and rebooting).

Boot from your DVD drive. It WILL work.
