Hi,
I have a problem where whenever a PCI card is inserted into PCI-7 (second last one), Windows Device manager displays, under unknown devices:
1) The PCI Card's content (in this case, SB Audigy 2); and
2) PCI-7
This ultimately results in my Soundcard not being picked up by the Windows XP. The Windows XP is 32bit Professional, not 64bit.
The system specification goes like this.
- AMD Venice 3200+
- GA-K8N Ultra SLi
- 2x Corsair 512MB DDR400
- 1x nVidia 6600 GT SLi
- W.D. 160GB SATA
- Soundblaster Audigy 2* (not working due to the problem)
- Netgear WG311 (for wireless networking - this also takes the other PCI on board, PCI-8).
I have tried switching the positions of the Wg311 and Audigy 2, the result is that PCI-7 Error displayed in the device manager is still there, Audigy 2 still not recognised but Wg311 works fine.
So the problem may seem like the sound card, Audigy 2, and PCI-7 slot displayed as an unknown device (no driver) in the device manager. To set the record straight, Audigy 2 works perfectly fine on my other Intel based box.
*Another problem is, since I assumed that Audigy 2 was going to work, I disabled Realtek AC97 Audio device from the device manager. And whilst doing so, I scarcely remember clicking on an option displaying a message something like this: "Do not display this device anymore". Now that the audigy 2 is not working, I will need that back.
So I re-inserted the motherboard's chipset driver CD (where Realtek Ac97 audio driver is located), but the CD's autorun'd screen does no display an option to install Realtek Ac97 audio driver anymore. Very strange. (The autorun'd application from the CD is called, Xpress install).
If anyone has slight idea of what is happening, then please reply back. Cheers.
