Hey TaiJohn,

I had read this too... but I am not sure how to make use of the information.

Clearly, 2x512mb at 200fsb is quiet common. And when there is an issue... change the motherboard, or memory and the issue goes away (haven't read anyone changing the cpu to get the problem to go away, hint).

My processor would not do over 195mhz with the Muskin, change to the OCZ memory and all of a sudden I can do 235mhz... like I had said before this is a compatability thing.

The AMD chart is a reference...

When I spoke with Muskin about the issue... they said there was an issue with the Gigabyte board... The Gigabyte tech. people basically referred to the chart... and talk about the memory controller being on board... and... what-are-you-going-to-do... lol.

I am no longer down on the Gigabyte board... only because I'm now having great luck... and with the same board... so I come back to a technology glitch... a compatability issue. All the stickers say PC3200 but they don't line up.

The AMD chart is the specifications, hardly surprising it doesn't always work if you try and run stuff above the specifications.

Just got off the phone with AMD tech support - apparently, the memory controller is not guaranteed to support dual channel DDR400 regardless of whether it it 2 modules or 4. Timings should be backed down to 333Mhz when using dual channel. Now what pisses me off about this is that the motherboard companies still advertise their products as supporting dual channel DDR400. Obviously they have been able to get it to work with some degree of success... And Gigabyte seems to have done it to a lesser degree. I mean I'm not even trying to overclock. I just want to use what I thought were "stock settings." Wouldn't this qualify as false advertising?

I think AMD should've been more clear when saying that the on-die memory controller in their Athlon64 processors was compatible with 3200(DDR400) RAM modules. Now we have to be told by their tech support that the on-die controller is "not guaranteed" to work at DDR400 speeds in dual channel. I consider it misleading...

To clarify on the AMD dual channel memory issue: Just called again to verify and this time tech support said that the memory controller officially supports dual channel DDR400, but to run at this speed, one needs to have good quality memory (like the modules on the compatibility lists). Otherwise, it should be able to run all memory at dual channel DDR333. It was also said that the motherboard manufacturer still has an influence on the stability of the system, although not as much cause the memory controller is now on the CPU. Sorry if I mislead anyone, guess I should always call tech support twice to verify

Over all, I satisfied with this board. Still I have a strange problem (little). Often when I have a cold start the system freezes before it get to windows. I do a restart directly after that happens it works fine. I'm not able to say what the reason for this could be.

Hey Savarak,

Thanks for point this out.

Anyone brave enough to try it.

I finally have my system working sweet... and I'm not game to experiment right now (too much poo going on).

Updated DMI Information... hmmm.

Their going to have to be more specific then that before I get excited .

Someone hose their system and tell us about it.

In F6 bios, software can monitor my HDD device that plugged to IT8212 ATA controller
but in F8 bios, it can't!!!
I really want to know the giga-byte staffs is really tested the bios or not -_-

How do the various system voltages look?

I used speedfan and everest to check teh voltages.
Vcore; 1.552
Vcore2: 2.67
Vio: 3.20

+3.3 ---> +3.20
+5 ----> +4.27

Hey TaiJohn,

I'm starting to wonder about whether your psu is quiet big enough.

With the 8KNS Pro it's hard to tell the voltages... but your +5V really looks low.

Course your system is working... so you don't have to do anything...

I suppose you could try:

1) Disconnecting everything non essential, fans, DVD's, etc. and see how it acts.

2) And/or try a bigger psu... I know... easier said then done (cha-ching).

Regards,

Karl

Hey paradise,

Thanks for the experimentation... I couldn't bring myself to do it.

My opinion of the Gigabyte bios development effort for the 8KNS Pro is poor...

Their recent updates have all been quirky (yes? no?).

I wonder too, if they are expecting us to do alot of this field checkout... why the heck they don't
tell us more about what they are trying to do with the revision.

Okay end of complaining... I really am satisfied with my setup .

Regards,

Karl

Does anyone know how to change the DDR memclock in Bios? Mine is at 166 and seems to be locked, and i want it at 200. Im finally getting mad at my mobo's anti oc'ing attitude.

Hi.
Don't know if anyone is still checking this topic.
But for what it's worth. I have a Gigabyte K8ns Pro for a few months now and had the same permanent overheating issues as I read about here now.
Darned, my temperatures indicated went up as high as 70c + so I'm amazed my cpu never blew.
It took me a month to figure out a solution and I wonder if anyone came to the same conclusions and/or has contacted Gigabyte about this one.

Solution : Lowered CPU core voltage from 1.50 to 1.475.

Temeperatures instantly came down. Must have been like 10~15 degrees less on average easily and my whole rig was thereafter also less sensitive with respect to environment temperature.

I'd love to hear some responses to this and hear if it helps any of you.
Got the exact same board at work in on of my machines and the exact same problem altough this board (with F8 bios) doesn't seem to like me lowering the voltage.

I got a funny feeling that either the BIOS or board is not detecting/setting the voltages correctly and no doubt a BIOS fix could change that.

Hi, same problem here. I tried replacing heatsink, thermal grease, etc, no success. Then I noticed I had always around 1.65V Vcore, so I lowered it in BIOS to 1.4 or 1.45, dont remember. Vcore voltage now is around 1.5V and temps are fine, 40 idle, 50 load. Seems like this motherboard 'overvoltage' a little. By the way, tried with Gigabyte support a week ago and no response from them

Thanks for the tip pvdven777.
My temps were worrying me abit with this board and have been watching this thread for advice.
Updated to F8 still no noticable changes untill I changed the Vcore from 1.67 to 1.52 and now my system sits at 35 idle and around 45 under load.
One other thing that bugged me was that once I had updated to F8 easy tunes 4 tabs no longer worked, so back to Hmonitor for readings.
Another thing that confusses me is, Hmonitor gives me three different temp readings. One is the CPU, which I know is correct cause it corresponds with the readings from the BIO's. One other reading which I think is the Mainboard or in-side case temp and another one reading CPU2 @ 1 c and under load goes up to about 7-9 c. According to the settings in Hmonitor it's the diode, which surly can't be right... can it ?

So thanks pvdven777 for your input, It really helped me.

hehe, 3 1st posters talking to themselves here...

But anyway so lowering the voltages would help with temps? I don't recall ever having any problems with my temps

Easytune 5's voltage checkers/etc... died with F8

Hi everyone, just joined the forums!

Been thinking about the memory issues: I have the infamous problem with 2 memory sticks -> can only run at 166 memclock, but 200 is reached with 1 stick.

But that's in auto mode, so I did the following: I boot with 1 stick @ 200 memclock, and wrote down the timings read from the Ctrl+1 BIOS screen, configured in 'auto' (wich were, of course, more 'conservative' than when running @ 166)

@ 200MHz memclock
CAS# 3.0
tRC 11
tRFC 14
tRCD 4
tRRD 3
tRAS 8
tRP 3
tWR 3
tWTR 2
tRWT 4
tREF 2x3120

Then I installed the second stick and changed to manual timing set, changing from auto-166 to manual-200 memclock. I replaced auto timing with the values I had written down and 'voila'! 2 memory sticks running at 200MHz memclock!! and everything looks fine to me right now (SiSoft, prime95, etc...) I still have to try 3DMark2005, though.

Resuming, manual timing allows me to run 2 memory sticks at their rated speed, with timings 3-4-3-8 that differ slightly with what SPD says about the modules (3-3-3-8)

No OC at all, I'll try that later

I hope this advice can help some other people. I've read through this thread and I think there are quite a few people with the same problem. Anyway, I supose the concrete successful timing combination will depend a lot on the quality of the memory.

Cheers from Spain

Hi There

I have just joined this forum , Sorry for the inconvienience , but I have the same problem with my board and the specs on the machine are almost Identical , my fan stops spinning when rebooted then restarts , also if box has been off for a while , the fan staps spinning for quite some time when boots up.I have utilised the power fan header for the cpu , at least the fan spins constantly, the fan is the standard fan the cpu ships with , also my easy tune 4 does not give options to view fan speeds and temps etc.Is this similar to your problem , if so what was the outcome ?

Please assist me

cheers

Hi everybody.
This is my rig:
Gigabyte GA-K8NS F9
AMD Athlo64 3000+ Newcastle CG
Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu
2x512 Kingston PC3200CL2.5 (2.0-3-3-7)
Tagan 480W

My bios settings are:
agp lock 66
mem max freq 166
LDT 3x
VCORE +1.55
VDIMM +0.1v

my cpu temp is 27ºC idle and 40ºC full load

The thing is that it won't boot when trying 9x235 or 10x225.

What am I doing wrong?
Thank you guys for your help
