I upped the voltage to the DDR by +0.1 Volt... All the games seem to run without crashing.

I wonder if it could be a power leak in the mobo design that diverts power away from the memory and sends it to the hungry AGP bus... that might explain not having the problems with the wimpy GeForce4Mx... Any comments?

One more question... when I run that AMD CPU speed thing ... "cpuinfo.exe" ... it show the lowest speed with CNQ as 1400 MHz and the highest as 2000 MHz... but when I run SiSoftware Sandra... it shows low as 1.0 GHz and high as 2.0 GHz. Any ideas?

I'm having a fairly recent problem with this board. It's not related to overclocking, but it's been bugging me. I had everything working just fine up until a few days ago. I upgraded my video card from a first generation Radeon to a Radeon 9800 Pro. Since then, it seems like the boot sequence has changed.

It used to POST all the normal info, and do the IDE scan on IDE 1 and 2. Next it would check the Nvidia RAID, then the GigaRAID, then the Sil SATA RAID. Ever since I installed the new video card, the boot sequence POSTS, scans IDE 1 and 2, checks the Nvidia RAID (luckily since that's where my Windows partition is), and then just boots to windows. I have two large drives connected to the GigaRAID that I use for storage of all my files, and I can no longer access them in windows.

One thing that's kind of strange is that if I hit del to go into the BIOS, it goes back to the normal boot sequence, and when it scans GigaRAID it detects my drives just fine. But whenever it's preparing to boot into Windows, it skips the GigaRAID scan.

Has anyone else had this problem at all? I've tried this with the F2D, F3A, and am currently running the F2 BIOS. I can't find any BIOS settings that would cause this. I'm going to try sticking in my old video card tonight and seeing if the problem fixes itself.

Thanks for any help I can get.

Edit> System specs:
Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro
AMD Athlon 64 2800+
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256meg
2xWD Raptor 36gig RAID0 on Nvidia RAID
2xMaxtor 120gig RAID0 on GigaRAID

Check to make sure that the IDE drives have the proper slave/master settings.

I'm pretty sure they do - it was working properly before I stuck in the new video card. But it's worth checking.

I also did some browsing and noticed there is updated firmware for the ITE RAID chip. I'm going to try updating that and see if it makes a difference.

Edit> The firmware for the ITE RAID chip is apparently included in the BIOS updates, and is not flashable on it's own.

Also, the drives have correct Master/Slave settings, and when I stick my old Radeon 64meg VIVO in everything works just peachy. I played around with some different settings, but I cannot get the GigaRAID to do any sort of detection if Windows is booting. If I disable the RAID for my boot drive, then GigaRAID works, but alas I cannot get into Windows.

This is quite frustrating

has anyone been able to change the multipliers in the bios and have it stick? i've tried changing it to 9 and 9.5, but et4 goes all weird...giving me wierd frequencies, or doesn't report it having been changed at all. i'm using F2 bios.

I haven't had any luck with the multipliers. I was able to get my 3200+ (New Castle) to boot @ 11X235 with RAM @200... but when I tried to drop the multiplier down and in order to raise the FSB I had no luck.

On another note, can anyone try and make send of this:
After having spent a good half an hour perusing this forum, I flashed my Bios to F3A. After a bit of tweaking I was able to boot up at the aforementioned specs..... After several hours of moderate use with great stability I decided to try some benchmarking programs.... my computer didn;t like this much and rebooted... and since then I have been able to boot @ 11x235 with RAM @ 166, but the moment I try to up it to 200 it won't POST and then resets itself to defaults after a minute or so. I then tried sticking with the stock settings to no avail. I've tried all combinations of RAM voltages and still no luck.

I guess I'm just baffled how I could not only get my system to POST and boot with the specs I wanted, but to use it for several hours with no problems, and now I am unabe to up the RAM, while still being able to up the core CPU speed.

Thanks a lot for reading my rather lengthy post. (no pun intended)

I am using my 3200+(stock 11x200) now 10x220MHz@1.4V. So at least my multi´s do work. I am also able to run it 10x240MHz@1.55V (my normal settings), but now since it´s so warn out here I decided to run it undervolted for a while. I am using bios F3a which seems to be the best one so far. Also my MEM works@220MHz and HTT 4X.

One advise to you all if you haven´t noticed it. WHEN YOU TRY OVERCLOCKING OR CHANGING MULTIPLIERS YOU NEED TO BOOT ONES WITH FSB 201MHz AND PCI/AGP 67MHz SO THAT THE LOCKS WORK. you just have to do it always first.
one example. if somehow my bios resets itself I do it this way. I go to bios and set FSB 201MHz and AGP/PCI 67MHz. Then Vcore from NORMAL to 1.55V.
I also set MEM from AUTO to 200 and then I set mem settings from AUTO to MANUAL and then for example my settings for the ram which are 3-8-10-3-3-7-2-2-2-2 and 2T ENABLED to DISABLED.
Then I reboot. and go once again to bios and now I adjust FSB 240MHz and leave AGP/PCI to 67MHz. After that I reboot and when it reboots I can notice from the first screen do the settings work if I can see that the FSB is 240MHz..

** HELP **
-------------

Mother Board : K8 Triton [GA-K8NS Pro] nForce3 250 Chipset
CPU : Amd Athlon 64 3200+ [1600 BUS]
RAM : 1GB PC3200 [3-3-3-8] OCZ
POWER : 350W [ANTEC] & 4 Squar Power Connector
Video Card: nVidia FX 5200 [128 MB] 8X Card
Moniator : Gateway EV700
CPU COOLER: Venus 12 [Thermaltake]

OK the problem is that I just bought the Mother board CPU, RAM, and CPU, heatsink & FAN
I put every thing correctly and only installed AGP Videocard and not other PCI cards and I turn on the computer and Nothing shows up on the moniator. I mean every thing is blank nothing shows up on the moniator and the keyboard [Num Lock] key don't work. All fans are working. I tested the ram , video card on another computer and they both work. If i don't use any ram then the mother board makes the 3 long beep noise that means the mother board atleast checks for ram.

Can some one please help !!!!!

Make sure you try just 1 stick of ram and try it in each of the 3 slots to see if that helps.

I'm sure you cleared the cmos w/ the jumper?

Make sure your hard drive and cd/dvd jumpers are set correctly.

Maybe it's your power supply. I'm not sure if 350W is enough. If you know someone with a stronger power supply...borrow it from them or something. It's worth a try.

Good suggestions, Also make sure the video card is AGP 3.0. Meaning it runs at either 4X or 8X. This mobo will not support 1X or 2X. Look to see if the LED next to your AGP slot is on, if it is your video card is the problem.

You are 100% Correct. I bought a 450 WATT Power supply and it worked great. Now the only problem is that the CPU Tecp stays at 62 degree F with out over clocking and if I set the CPU FAN TO MAX then it goes down 60 (5500 RPM)

TY for your helps ---

I just got my setup all put together yesterday.

2800+
512 megs pc4000 muskin
k8ns pro

I can get the FSB up to 240 easily, but I can't seem to change the clock multiplier. It claims that it has been changed, but it doesn't change in windows.

I'm running the F2 bios from gigabyte's site

Get the latest bios update. It should read your temps more accurately. I was getting 54C (around 47C with CnQ on) idle with the old bios. I'm getting about 37C idle now CnQ enabled.

I haven't been able to get the multipliers working either. But there was a post in this topic that had a method you can try. Something about setting it to 201mhz first or something. Just read this topic and it should be in there. It didn't work for me, but it's worth a try.

Actually I posted it. Try settings "FSB" 201MHz and AGP 67MHz and reboot and then try to change multiplier.

Also try bios F3a, at least that is the best for me...

Does anyone have the same Blue screen crashes with CnQ that I do? it goes down to 1ghz just fine, but if I start doing stuff that would cause it to fluxuate alot (browsing with multiple pages, more than 1 open program at a time, etc) then my programs either crash or I blue screen. It would work all night long with no problems if I do a burn-in test(Sandra, Super-PI, etc), or if I leave it alone all night... but the moment I start running multiple programs, it dies on me!!

Yes bsod with cool n quiet. why bother I guess. I tried to play UT2004, -bsod. I just turned QnQ - on looked at my 5V and it was about 3.28. Turned it off 5V was 5.29. Not sure but this board always has a prob with 5V.

I am running F3A. Is anyone having their temp indicate that their power supply is on fire? Sandra shows 158F. Not true, put a probe on it and it is very cool.

I use [ArcTic Silver 5] THe real one not the one that comes with other stuff. and I use Venus 12 CPU cooler which is i am gussing a Piece of S***. My CPU Tempreature is always at 65 degree C and I need to under clock my System from 1600 BUS (which is normal) to 1000 BUS (my memory is 3200 DDR) and the CPU speed from 2.01 GHz to 1.8 GHz so this way the tempreature will be less. I tryed every thing like :

1. Increase CPU FAN Speed from 3000 to 5500 RPM which keeps cpu at 57C
2. UPGRADING the BIOS (shows the same Information)
3. Used many different types of Programs to detect the correct tempreature and they all showed the same Tempreature.
4. Checked the tempreature from BIOS and they all showed the same Tempreature.

- PS what is CnQ ? My CPU FAN uses Manual Speed Controle and I have to turn the switch to make the fan do higher and higher. I usually keep the fan at 4100 RPM
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can this Mother board supports SCSI just like ATA Drives ?

My guess is the board is reporting the temperature incorrectly. Check for an updated BIOS to correct it. Regarding CnQ (Cool 'n Quiet), it lowers the fan speed (& voltage I believe) when the cpu is idle. In other words, the point is to run the fan at lower rpm.

Actually C´n´Q lowers clock freguency and voltages.

and that concludes that if your cpu fan is set to lower the fan speed when temps are low it certainly will be lower because the temps are lower...

To MASTER04 : there might be something wrong with your board or it might a bios thingy but make sure you have correctly installed your heatsink so that it touches the core the right way...
