all done, sometimes speed is 1 ghz but mostly 1.79. The fan speed remains always the same. I thought that the fan speed must change too, or I'm wrong?

Hu guys,

Im new to this MB so far stable but I have a few questions

1) I am on bios F1 and my memory settings in the bios seem slow cas2 but the other number in order are 10,12,3,2,6,2,1,1,1,2X2592

if I use cpu-z i see channels set to single and Freq 170 with FSB cpu/12 Cas lat = 2, ras to cas = 3. ras precharge = 2, cycle time = 6 and bank cycle time of 10, dram idle of 16

my ram is corsair pc 3200 2 512 sicks in 1 and 3 of the slots. This is the twinx llpt extreme low latency ram.

So should I get better numbers? if so can anyone tell me what I need to change?
Should I change the BIOS to newer and if so which seems most stable and could you provide a link?
IS using slots 1 and 3 correct for dual channel.

thanks for any ideas.

ocsscott, there is no dual channel for this motherboard...

Does anyone have any problems(besides the default-to 166) with 2x512 pc3200 with it crashing the system?? I'm talking... playing sound or video or games... where all of a sudden it locks up, making some horrible scrreeechhing noise out of the speakers? No BSOD or anything, forced to manually reset or power down the machine...

I just took out one stick and it SEEMS OK so far.... even have CnQ turned on without it crashing also(before it crashed when multiple processes are running), but I don't want to waste my money on 512 of ram when it can't even be used....

Try a higher cas latency in the bios settings. Try 2.5 or 3 and see what happens. Mine defaults to 2 which can "upset" the system.

I have Geil DDR PC400 2x512Mb Kit Ultra SeriesDC (single sided i presume)

It's stable at
frequency 201.0 MHz
FSB DRAM CPU/11
CAS 2.5
RAS to CAS 4
RAS precharge 4
Tras 8
Trc 11
Idle timer 16

with SPD Bios F2, no problems at all.

Bios found at the giga-byte site

F4 is pretty stable. I've been running it for a few weeks already. The only thing it still doesn't do is show the info on ET4 and the multipliers don't work. I'm using Corsair Value Ram PC3200 2X512mb at 218 and it's stable. Haven't had any crashing at all.

ocsscott, when you're in the bios, press CTRL + F1. It'll give you another option where u can set the mem speed, among other things.

I noticed that a few posters had managed to install the Zalman 7000 on this mobo. I recently bought one but for the life of me can't figure out how to install it. Mine's the 7000-AlCu that comes with the A64 nipples but without the backplate. I probably need to remove the retention frame, any tips on how to achieve this without breaking the mobo? Does it work with the backplate on the mobo? Any other installation instructions?

Also, C'n'Q refuses to work at all. Bios is F4, all settings at default and C'n'Q driver is installed. Windows (XP SP2) locks up immediately when I set the power save option in windows. What am I missing here?

Any help much appreciated.

ruuvari, look carefully at the plastic posts on the retension frame. At the top, they have plastic pins that slide out. I didn't know, and initially tried to pry/chisel the retension fram off, until one of the plastic pins surprised me by loosening. Piece of cake after that. My alpha heatsink did require a metal backplate however.

try using just 1 stick of ram, Ruuvari.... I've had a whole bunch of crashes and errors with 2 sticks of ram, but with 1 stick, CnQ finally works and my comp is stable

After using the +.1 DRAM Voltage for a few weeks... it's going back to the crashing in intensive 3d games...
this occurs when there's 2 sticks of my 512 Mb corsair.

I pulled out a stick of ram (now only running 512Mb of ram)... and I don't get crashing in games.
I'm really annoyed by this. I don't know if RMAing my board would solve anything.

Is my memory controller bad? Or is this just a poorly designed motherboard that was released before all the kinks were worked at?

Sigh..... I wish I had bought the MSI. I normally respect Gigabyte's mobos... but I have to admit that this board's release was a bit premature.

it seems that SP2 and Athlon64 can give problems, so maybe you betterdon't install sp2 for the time beeing.

I just bought this mobo with a 3700 cpu. I thought I did my homework and THEN I find this site with ALOT of complaints concerning memory. My one and only question is with all the memory problems out there which is the best memory to buy for this system (pc3200, pc3500 or pc3700). Keep in mind that I would like to keep it in one gig bars to allow for at least 2 gig in a few weeks and I would also like to give overclocking a shake.

Also I would like to thank all of you that are giving out advice to us rather new to this hobby.

My best advice would be to stick with ONLY ONE stick of RAM. (ie. buy a 1 GHz stick).
It might be a while before GigaByte works out the many problems with the memory controller / Bios related issues on this board. If you use more than 1 stick of Ram... you won't be able to run anything higher than PC2700.

I dunno...it might be luck. I'm running with 2 sticks of PC 3200 512mb sticks at 218mhz fine. After F2 bios, I've been able to run my ram past 200mhz without any problems.

I dont know where anyone on this site is getting their information from! I am using two sticks of Corsair pc3200. I can OC them up to about 230Mhz w/o a problem at 1:1 (10x230), or at 166:200 (around 9x265). I am purchasing two 512 sticks of PQI DDR500 to use in this board. There are no problems....do you all have the F4 bios? If so, look at your PSU. If your power supply is crap, you cannot overclock your memory or CPU for that matter and expect good results and good temps

The gigabit onboard network chip just got fried. I guess CSS and CZ were too much for it. :brokenheart:

Hi I just got this motherboard an I am trying to set it up with motherboard moniter. Am I supposed to be using 'ITE8712F-2' for cpu temp monitering?
