It is possible to have a pair x4 slots like I want. Each of them being the proper dimensions of x4 so that the cards will fit (i.e. LSI) but only have two PCI-E lanes connected to each of the slots so that x4 lanes and cards fit but run at x2 speed. 500 mb/s @x2 would be plenty fast enough for a simple SCSI raid array(ultra 320 single channel) and dual channel controlers would requre more bandwith than x2.

That is important, because some of us dont want SLI for many reasons: because it does not work in all games, the extra PCI-E lanes can be used for add on cards, A better path to take is to use the $500 on a DX 10 card that will out perform a SLI setup in ALL GAMES, not just those that are written for it.

SLI generates too much heat, uses too many slots, uses too much electricty, and is not the best price to performance ratio. Its like the Prescott of graphics solutions.

There are no extra PCI-e lanes on single 16X slot vs dual slot motherboards since in SLI mode they just run in an 8X/8X configuration.

Their are 20 lanes total and I am also speaking in a future tense when we may have 36 lanes. I do not want the mother board real-estate being used by SLI. I hope that clears things up.

It also looks like those x32 slots are a long ways from becoming a reality.

Sli does, however provide for a more inexpensive upgrade path for those who can't wait for the next generation of video cards.
Price-performance ratios don't matter to everyone. (Last time I checked alienware was still in business.)

Haaa ha, and other end of the spectrum so is DELL!

I would say eiter the winchester 3200+ or 3500+ would be the best processors. The 3200 is a great OCer and the 3500+ is probably one of the best bang for the buck processors out there. Personaly, I think the FX-55, while the best at stock speeds, is overkill for its price. It really isn't worth the markup...

The entire FX line while being expensive for most part, is a complete bargain when compaired to Extreme Editions.

i got the 3000+ for my NF4 Asus A8N-SLI. I'm planning to overclock, and i want to get the Zalman 7700, but i'm not sure if it'll fit in my mobo, so i just got the retail A64 kit until i'm sure of what heatsink i can get. Anybody have any experience using the default heatsinks? I've heard the 3000+ runs pretty damn cool, so i'd imagine there is plenty of room to clock it to 2.25GHz ish (which is the limit with my PQI DDR500 anyway, unless it will clock higher)
