Gigabyte GA-MA785GM temperature

I recently built a new computer with a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H with a Phenom II 545 and 4 GB PC8500 DDR2. I've run CPUID Hardware Monitor on occasion to check on system temperatures and left it running during various tasks. Most of the temperatures seems fine, running in the 30's when idle and the 40's when under load. But one temperature sensor gets pretty high--"TMPIN1" can get as high as 61 degrees.

Does anybody know what "TEMPIN1" represents? I'm guessing it's probably the Northbridge. About 75% of the time, its temperature is under 50 degrees, but when I'm doing something CPU intensive (or GPU intensive, I think... is Direct3D assessment in Windows Experience just GPU, or also CPU?), it hits 59-61 degrees very quickly. 10 seconds of Prime95 pushed the temperature to 60 degrees. Should I do something about this, or is it OK as it is?

This has become a popular board since it was released. If anybody out there has this board, what kind of temperatures do you get? You can download Hardware Monitor here: http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

I have the exact same motherboard and ran a couple of tests with HWMonitor - the Windows Experience Index Performance Test and the AMD Overdrive Stability Test. I saw similar temperature changes for the "TEMPIN1" sensor, so I'm pretty sure that it is related to the onboard GPU/Northbridge as well.

However, the reported temps are much lower in my system - it goes from around 32C idle to 45C under load. Haven't seen it go any higher and the rest of the system temps are in that range as well with CPU Cores maxing out around 35C. The ambient temp in the room was 72F while running these tests.

So unless you're living in the tropics with ambient room temps of 80F+, it seems that your temps on that sensor may be a little high. You may want to check the airflow in your case and see if it can be imporved. Or see if the northbridge heatsink is seated correctly.

You can check the components in my system - it is always on and used as a HTPC with everything on default settings, no overclocking. I was actually expecting higher temps since I am using a small microATX case with only one 120mm fan on low for airflow and I've also switched off the fan on the Xigmatek HSF for the CPU. But everything is still running quite cool.

I'm running everything in a Cooler Master RC-690 with one front intake fan and one exhaust fan (both stock case fans) running. The airflow seems pretty good. The heat sinks seem to be seated correctly, as far as I can tell. Ambient room temperature is 78 degrees, so that explains why my idle temperatures are a little higher, but it doesn't explain why the load temperature gets to 60+ degrees on that particular sensor. Anybody else with this motherboard?

I have this motherboard too, I'll run my own tests as well.

EDIT: 43 degrees is the max I got. But ambient temp in this room is rather low too, probably 55 degrees.

Thanks for the response. Out of curiosity, what OS and which drivers are you guys running? I'm running Win 7 with the drivers that came on the motherboard CD. Updating my drivers using Windows update caused my ethernet to stop working, and my video display to have problems waking up after sleep mode.

Oh, I should have added that updating my drivers also caused the Windows Experience index to drop by about 1.0 in one of the graphics categories... I think it was gaming graphics. Seemed odd, but I didn't measure system temps again before I rolled back my driver. Who knows, maybe system temps decreased along with the Window Experience index.

NEVER update drivers through Windows Update, that will only cause problems. I am using the drivers that came with the mobo, Vista 64-bit.

I am running Windows 7 (x64) and have never used the drivers that came with the motherboard... the OS detected everything automatically and I just updated to Catalyst 9.9 from the AMD website.
